A fellow I follow on social media estimated that a side would need 2,300,582 votes to win the referendum in Greece. "Oxi" (No) is now on 2,278,548 votes. Basically it is now impossible for the Yes side to win the referendum, the conclusion is now foregone. It looks like Greece has voted No.

I never thought I'd be so happy to see a country vote No in a referendum.

Glad to see the Greek vote.  This wont fix the Euro but when you find yourself in a hole you stop digging and Greece has forced Europe to do that.

Sounds like the US investment industry, wasn't it supposed to be hypothetical?

In the US TARP case Lehman Brothers went bankrupt and AIG investors lost nearly all their money.  The other firms profited when the market rallied but their profits didn't take the form of the government handing them money.  The US government made losses on some TARP purchases but made profits on others.  To quote wikipedia: "On December 19, 2014 the U.S. Treasury sold its remaining holdings of Ally Financial, essentially ending the program. TARP revenue has totaled $441.7 billion on $426.4 billion invested."  So a taxpayer profit from the banks of 15 billion dollars vs. taxpayer loss of hundreds of billions of Euros in Germany's case.

according to preliminary google inquiries, it is a part of greece, but not an actual administrative region of greece

presumably the vote didn't happen there

It's a special province similar to the Vatican city in that it is an autonomous region of holy men, it differs in that it is isolationist

It looks like a crushing defeat for Germany.

I guess this is part of the problem. Why is it always framed as 'Germany vs Greece'? It's 18 against one, not one against one.

Also we'll have to wait and see how this turns out for Greece. It may be a defeat for Germany, but it may turn out to be a pyrrhic victory for Greece.
