"Uh-oh" intensifies. Looks like my reaction to Saakashvili's appointment was right.

Quote from: jesus these bolded parts
Ukraine will do everything possible to restore the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. On Friday, June 5, the president said Petro Poroshenko at a press conference, the correspondent of the MFN.

"We have no obligation to let Russian troops in Transnistria. And we will not do that. We have no obligation to maintain a particular way of the Russian presence in Transnistria. But in the 5 + 2 Ukraine and on my behalf, perhaps with my participation, I will do everything to restore the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and to do everything possible to ensure a normal life for all who live there, but in the framework of international law " - said Poroshenko.

He noted that the difference in Transnistria from Donetsk that there is no common border with the Russian Federation. According to him, it will be easier to clean up the mess.

He also stressed that he sees no reason for the escalation of the situation.

I hope this is just an overtly hostile rhetoric...
What could the Russian Federation do in response?
Well, if they attack the Russian peacekeepers in Transnistria (and this is really the only way they can "enforce territorial integrity" and "clean up the mess"), the Russian government can declare an "enforcement of peace" operation against Ukraine, like what happened in 2008.

The consequences would be pretty significant, especially given that Ukrainian government has yesterday openly given access to foreign troops on its territory for reasons of "peacekeeping and security operation for Ukraine on the basis of the UN and/or EU resolution".

You forgot to bold the most important part here
That would just mean that Ukraine needs to stage a provocation and then call upon the international law to declare the Russian troops in Moldova illegal. With the yesterday's parliament decision, gathering forces to carry out the physical forces against the Transnistria should not be difficult.

Conducting FREEDOM missions costs money. Russia has the troops, equipment - but where would the capital come from?

Sweden should keep an eye on Scania County – it's pretty similar to Catalonia in the sense of being prosperous and densely populated while being situated far away from the capital. The Scanians also have a distinct cultural identity and their very own language (a lovely mixture of Danish, Welsh, and dying walrus).

And West Gothland would be another fine candidate for independence – their regional identity may not be as strong, but Gothenburg would surely like to ditch its demeaning status as a regional capital, and become a full-fledged national one.

Anyone here happen to be from Scania or Gothland? How about you, scriver? :P

Being the King of Aragon was not some self-imposed name; he inherited the damn thing. The Aragonese never ruled the County of Barcelona; the County of Barcelona  ruled the Aragonese. Who gives a fuck if it wasn't specifically called Catalonia? You accuse me of making up history, but you can't even figure out that one can inherit a title of a kingdom without being the culture of said kingdom. Being the King of Aragon does not make you Aragonese; Alfonso II was certainly not.
Normans being Kings of England does make them Kings of England. It'd vary on a case by case basis.

Well, my country has enshrined it in law that if you want to secede, you can, so there's that. Then again I'm a filthy Canadian, so I don't get a politics thread.
