This sounds remarkably like Communist economics. The Trabi was an outdated piece of shit, but it was YOUR piece of crap.

The whole point of globalization is to figure out what you have a competitive advantage in and do that thing. Computer manufacturing is not Russia's competitive advantage. (computer hacking, on the other hand...)

1) Comparative advantage not competitive advantage.
2) A drive pulls into a service station in a Trabant.  The driver gets out and asks the attendant "Can I get a windshield wiper for this Trabant?"  The attendant ponders the question and gives the car a close inspection.  Finally the attendant comes to a decision "Okay, it's a trade".

Oh, Trabi jokes are a whole genre. And pretty funny! I'll refrain from posting any though since I'm afraid Ant will come to Bonn and kill me if I do :P

According to urban legend, Trabants had the tendency to get soggy in rainy weather, and they sometimes got eaten by goats and other barnyard animals.

Why do so many Ossis have a skateboard?

Well, sometimes it happens that you forget your Trabi in the rain...

Sadly, most of the Trabi jokes (and car jokes in general) that turn up on Google are just stale snowclones that have been applied to every Eastern-bloc vehicle in existence.

Fer ex:

A: Fill up the tank.
Haw haw, never heard that one before.

Good riddance! They can have Berlin, Bonn is the more appropriate seat of government anyway. Much less suitable for dreaming of being a great power. And maybe, just maybe, we'll zombify Adenauer and have him be our chancellor for unlifetime.

Maybe we could mate him with a Czech to dilute the vowels?
