In other words, the march, which was ideally supposed to stay above politics, still fell victim to the politics happening between various countries.

Also, Nicolas Sarkozy, capable of being worse than politics between 20 countries.

Mostly tho, we're either slightly annoyed by them or shrugging them off.

Fill me in - is Sarkozy so incredibly unpopular that even the thought of him appearing in national - well, international now - politics triggers you that much? I thought Hollande was the most hated president in France.

Oh, in that specific case, it's not about him being unpopular, it's about him behaving like a 2 y/o on coke. "I want to be in front! I'm irrelevant to anything going on, but I want to be there! Me! Me! Me me me MEEEEE!"

Yeah, from what I've seen, it's what Dumbestdorg said that caused annoyance.

Or they payed the deceased their respects by making the best parody of themselves they could cobble together.

Hadn't considered it this way, but if that's where they were aiming for, it was successful.

"Look, I just had a blogger flogged, but haha! Freedom of expression!!!"
"We like feeding our journalists some polonium when they don't agree, but... Freedom of expression!!!"
and so on (up to, and including, the French government: "Where did they become fundamentalists?" - "In prison, sir." - "Cool, let's censor social media!")

Frankly, what would you expect them to do? It's hypocritical of them to show up there, true. Had they not shown up, though, they'd be accused of lacking empathy and some other bollocks people would come up with.

Yes. Also, those tweets? Many of them may be legit, but I think it's highly dubious to call the current secretary-general of NATO a hypocrite because of a NATO bomb dropped fifteen years ago.

I'm pretty fine with the lack of representation from the US (unlike, apparently, people from the US). And I certainly could have lived without the others being there.
