One of the things we need to do in a situation like this is probably avoid showing fear- after all, terrorism is scaring a population into doing what you want. It stops working when people stop getting worried by it.

Unfortunately I think the opposite is going to happen. The result of the last Mohammed caricature scandal was that barely anyone dared making fun of Islam anymore and there was relatively little public support for the newspapers that printed the caricatures despite threats and attempted attacks. After this now, I fear it might get much worse when the initial shock is over.

Digging slightly old post out because can't ignore that. You seriously underestimate how hart it is to have a guerilla army to actually challenge a country (or alliance of countries). Supplying such army requires not a trivial amount of resources that is hard to get.

What is more important, you need limit potential traitors to the bare minimum. That means nearly 100% in the group guerrillas uses for support and hiding. I bet that they have no such support among European Muslim because many of them want to have calm lives and will happily inform the government about hiding places.

BTW, what happened in France is a failure of their security service. Such large group can't organize itself without leaving traces and could have been neutralized before they started to act.

There are reports now that the police has left the building in Reims without arresting anyone. Some confusion about what's happening there, apparently that quarter of the city is in lockdown.

And now police has confirmed to Le Monde that there was no arrest so far:

some of the assumptions here disturb me. The belief that tens of thousands of european muslims (that's awful lot,) are just terrorists waiting to attack, and then those many muslims have a supportive community to hide in.

That's fear and hate mongering. That's being afraid of dusky skinned people who don't look and think like you.

Do not let bad things happening make you afraid of people that are not white and christian. I saw the US after 911, it was a bad place to be  amuslim or an arab. It was a bad place in general. And we did bad things. Don't be the US.

It is not hate mongering or fear to not tolerate someone who wants to take away my freedom of speech and other liberties because I can potentially insult his/her religion way or another and who wants me dead for my thoughts. I don't care if they happen to be muslims or christians or IPUs(I personally have absolutely nothing against any culture as is, skin color, religion or thoughts as long as they don't include features such as racism and violence eg. IS's version of muslim faith).

Tolerating intolaterance is not tolerance at all. People like those 3 no place in Europe.

Try doing that hypothetical debates with other racial groups. You will find it ends up being very offensive. It's conspiracy theory at best, and fear mongering at worse.
