Please that be a real thing.

I've heard it used that way, and Wikipedia says "Polar Bear – An older bear whose facial and body hair is predominantly or entirely white or grey."

You know what I've noticed? A lot of the time, the first legal marriages in a place are nearly always either older gentlemen (what would be termed bears, usually. Polar bears, even :P) or lesbian couples.

It's... a little strange that that is the trend.

Could it be that older gentlemen and ladies are more inclined to want to tie the knot? You know, settle down and all that. Unless there's religious things involved I think a lot of young people nowadays are avoiding marriages, regardless of their sexuality - there are many exceptions of course.

Well, that's probably a large factor in it, but when I say the older gentlemen, I mean a very specific look. Larger, big gray beard, perhaps even stereotypically biker looking?

Perhaps it's a popular look among gay people of that age. It may just be the fashion. I could be entirely wrong though. When I try to think of "older gay gentlemen" (not something I do on a regular basis I assure you), the mental image I have is of some elderly family friends who were clean shaven and wore thick real-wool jumpers and drank a lot of red wine. I don't know if guys like that are that common these days - perhaps as fashions changed they have been replaced with polar bears like other youth subcultures among men have been replaced with hipsters and beardsmen and such.

I only think of Gandalf, and he was a bit on the beardy side even for a biker.

Heh, my uncle is clean-shaven and wears thick jumpers. And, apparently, he is gay.

Year 2014 is over. Year that will remain an important chapter in Ukrainian history. The brightest year of my life.

Now, now. Just name the bike Shadowfax and he could show modern bikers a thing or two.

I think this might be worth discussing.

Link

Basically, man convicted for murder/rape has been imprisoned for 30 years. He suffers from severe mental issues, and can not get adjusted psychical treatment. (No resources/facilities)

Since, it's unlikely that he'll ever be released without said treatment(and in fact, he doesn't want to, as he considers himself a threat), he has requested euthanasia, a request which has been granted and will be executed next sunday.

Yea I don't understand that, they would rather kill him then give him the treatment he obviously needs???

It's Belgium, I'm surprised they even made room for him in the prison, much less provided any treatment.

...why can't they just give him the damn treatment that he needs? It's not like they tried and failed- they haven't tried at all, as far as that article describes it- they just stuck him in jail.
No facilities for treatment. (Though I think we're building one, not sure though).

After all, he's not the only one. 10% of the prison population is mentally ill. Facilities for those are near-non-existent.

And just transferring him to the Netherlands is much more complex than it sounds.

Indeed, the Belgian prison system is kind of dystopic.

Interesting article

Well, he asked to be treated at a center in the Netherland, but it's not legal to send convicts abroad for treatment AFAIK. I'm not entirely sure why we can't treat him here.

MSH, what are you trying to say?

I'm trying to say that Belgium has been towing the line between "minimalist facilities and activity" and "does not exist as a state entity" for a while now.
