Of course that's a bit of an outdated outlook nowadays - the scariest thing is the number of working class people poised to vote UKIP next year.

Well you have to keep the roads clear by getting rid of all the immigrants, eh?

Says the small article with hardly any verification, or even quotes taken from Farage?

You may make Nigel Farage the scape goat of all political ills if you want, but he's not stupid. I think there's more to it than what that article said, though I'll go have a look now.

Edit: My apologies, there is a quote from Farage there, but it was blocked by ads. Heh, I should be more observant by now :P

You can find his actual words here. There really is not much more to it than what has already been said. He may not be stupid, but some of the things he says are... worrying.

That is nothing to do with professionalism, what it does have to do with is a population that is going through the roof chiefly because of open-door immigration and the fact that the M4 is not as navigable as it used to be.

He didn't blame it on immigration then, but on population and navigability. Population is rising faster than for generations because of immigration, so he cites it as the main factor of population increase but not the only one.

Mr. Farage also disagrees with women breastfeeding in public, suggesting that they sit in a corner and do it or find a "less ostentatious" way to feed a baby.

I'm trying to imagine what a woman feeding a baby ostentatiously would be like.

But yeah, I think the whole 2015 election campaign for UKIP is going to be constant application of elastoplasts over gaping wounds created by terrible gaffs like the ones they've endured throughout 2013 and 2014. There'll be many more to come as they're put under the spotlight.

I know I should support women breastfeeding publicly, I guess. But ew. There are bathrooms to do that in.

Ugh gross.

Anything pregnancy or baby related makes me ill. It's not really an entirely logical or rational feeling.

Er, yes, I agree.

What's your issue with this view? It makes people uncomfortable, and there are private areas women can use to get around that problem without much hindrance.

How does that go against what I was saying? He's saying the main rise of population is down to immigration. Are you disagreeing?

Well, you had about 700,000 births in the UK, compared to 243,000 long-term immigrants

Okay you guys are no longer allowed to criticize American politics.

Your politicians appear to be just as batshit insane. You've just been hiding it from us and using our ignorance of world affairs to trick us into thinking your govt was reasonable.

It is a common misconception in the United States that British people are somehow more cultured, more civilised, more intelligent or less batshit insane than other countries such as the US. In truth there is very little difference (we even have politicians who think gay people invoke god's wrath and cause flooding - UKIP representatives, no less) and the only reason why these misconceptions even exist is because of a lingering idea of British cultural superiority derived from the days of the Empire.

But yeah I despair every time I see Americans going crazy at "quaint British things" like Prince William and Kate Middleton ending up in the States. You escaped this abomination of monarchy, you fools.

Yes, with air horns and streamers and Twisted Sister playing through loudspeakers.

But I really don't see what there is to get uncomfortable about. It's a natural thing - honestly, what's so disgusting about it?  Apart from the baby-related phobia Smeeprocket described.

There is also the matter of the growing issue of poverty. My impression is that as a country's population gets poorer its population increases due to people having loads of kids - that's happening in England right now.

An interesting points raised by Piketty in his Capital in the 21st century is that increasing population drives income inequalities due to inheritance down. To put it simply, if a generation is much larger than the previous one, the inherit less per capita, so they have to make their own money.

I thought the thing was that you had more kids when you had less money so that you'd have more people to look after you when you're elderly. Considering where pensions are going in the UK (I'm not sure if I'll even have one worth the name by the time I retire - or rather, "if" I ever retire before I kark it) and the state of care for elderly people these days and the cost of it all even I'd consider having kids for that purpose. We certainly can't rely on the state anymore - in England it's even worse.

To be fair, it should be acknowledged that England has experienced large waves of immigrants throughout the second half of the 20th century and these immigrants came from the West Indies, South Asia, parts of former British Africa (e.g. Asians in Africa like Freddie Mercury) - all places where the tradition of having more kids when you're poor would still be strong. There's also the issue contraception and its lack of popularity among such groups of people for religious and cultural reasons. I think it would be interesting to see just how many of the kids being born in England from 1960 - 2014 would belong to immigrant family backgrounds.

In my opinion there's also the greater issue of poor education in schools used by children from working class backgrounds. I think all these factors contribute to increasing birth rates. It feeds itself.

This is true as there are more children needed to work the farm, poor education on contraception or similar matters. People are also likely to have less children as they can't afford them, too. However, assuming that you're right and less money causes people to have more children, it's still just another factor for population increase alongside immigration.

As for the breastfeeding being natural, so is releasing the waste substances in your body. We shouldn't want that happening in front of people, given it's rather rude. Hell, even murder is natural. It's not a question of what's natural, because anything we do is natural. It's a question of it being not wanted to be seen done in public, especially with such a simple solution- go somewhere private where you won't be observed baring your breasts.

I think we can safely say that population increase in the UK over the last 50 years is primarily due to increasing poverty and immigration, among other things.

I'm not sure if comparing a woman feeding her baby with breast milk to defacating, urinating in public or murdering people really works here.
