Russia has certainly done immeasurable harm to the anti-nuclear proliferation movement.  The world had been making good progress on reducing the nuclear stockpiles.  But Russia invading Ukraine after signing a treaty to protect them means that's a complete no go for a looooooooong time.

To be fair, the non-proliferation treaty kind of failed when China,India and Pakistan got the bomb.

North Korea got the bomb.

China got the bomb.

India and goddamn Pakistan, the only two countries that can potentially wage a large conflict against each other, have the bomb, too.

If that isn't the failure of nuclear non-proliferation already, then I don't know what is.

EDIT: The bomb wouldn't save Ukraine, btw. One-two nuclear explosive devices without any means to deliver it to the target (Ukraine has very little in the way of strategic weapon carriers) are nearly useless.

Uhm, Ukraine had quite a few nuclear weapons, and ballistic carriers.

Most of these were converted to cheap launch vehicles.

By "had" you mean "were left on their territory by USSR".

And they would be in a pretty bad shape after 20+ years of zero maintenance.

They do also have the industrial facilities that maintain them. (Also left there by the USSR)

The fact that they have the facilities doesn't negate the fact that they wouldn't maintain them.

I'm just extrapolating from how the Ukrainian army, navy and airforce were maintained. Poorly. Nuclear weapons also require maintenance. Same for ballistic missiles. And with advent of capitalism in Ukraine in 90s, nearly everything that could be sold would be sold/converted for quick cash. Like ballistic missiles. Surely Ukraine in 90s would have zero reasons to think it would need those things?

What about it? It's one of the two Mistral carriers built for Russia in France, currently undergoing sea trials.

its a cargo ship? Or what are you wth'ng about? All I see is a ship docked somewhere in France that flies under the Russian flag, cargo ships do that all the time.

Or what Olemars said.

Also, what's the deal with France giving Russia stuff when they aren't supposed to right now because sanctions?

Today is supposed to be the last day to deliver Mistrals to Russia. One day late and Russia has the right to recieve a financial compensation - more than 3 billion Euro.

Or France will say fuck off. After all if Russia ignores international law, why other countries should do that when dealing with Russia

But more likely there are legal ways to not pay that.

Personally, I prefer Russia receiving the vessel and spending some money on that. It is not like it will turn Russian Navy in a much stronger force, while spent money will bring collapse of Russian economy closer
