From Phmcw's link:

Quote
Hence, for every 100 men who killed
their wives, about 75 women killed their husbands.

And that's in the US, which this paper study because the ration of husbands killed by their wife is especially high. According to the same paper, you've for 23 dead husband for 100 dead wives in England, 40 in Scotland and 17 in Denmark.

So no, women do not kill their partners at the same rate than men. They're about as violent (from other studies I read, I can link them if you want), but they kill less, in large part because men tneds to be much bigger and stronger than women.

Yikes, Scottish wives are deadly! In fact, almost twice as deadly as the English ones.

Or maybe it's the Scottish husbands who are more pacified?

But US wives are almost twice as deadly as Scottish wives and more than three times as deadly as British wives.

Presumably because of two factors:
1. Higher availability of firearms.
2. Higher obesity rate means the guy can't dodge as well.

And yes, I'm making black humour of domestic violence.

French farmers protest because of low prices caused in part by the sanctions of Russia

"A group of more than 300 farmers dumped around 100 tonnes of manure and rotten vegetables in the centre of Chartres on Tuesday in protest at falling food prices.

The protesters, from the FDSEA union, are "fed up" with the "increasingly crazy constraints and charges" faced by farmers, said union leader Jean-Michel Gouache.

He denounced the "collapsing prices of cereals, milk and vegetables, caused in part by the sanctions on Russia" as well as rising fertiliser prices.

Organisers said between 700 and 800 farmers from the Paris region showed up for the demonstration, bringing in some 60 tonnes of potatoes and 20 tonnes of onions, apples and pears, all grown in the region."

They did the same thing a year or two ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's an old picture too.

Well at least in France, when the government shits on people, the people can repay the favor.

Yeah, dumping manure on public building is a French tradition.

IIRC the only country that is more lavish to it's farming sector than France is Japan.

Yes and no, France cannot under EU rules give too much free stuff to its farmers directly, but then the European Common Agricultural Policy is designed to shower French farmers with money.

I understand that Catalonia is to vote Yes to its national independence and sovereignty this weekend. Catalans, unlike Scots, actually have a backbone. I have long thought there are many, many nations more deserving of the "Braveheart" reputation we inexplicably carry.

Most of them don't have a movie to propagate these stereotypes, afaik. The closest I can think of is that one little village in Gaul.

Wasn't that referendum banned by Spanish government?

But if the result is "yes", the Spanish gubment wouldn't have any say in the matter anymore!

AFAIK, it's not a real referendum, but a non-binding "consultation". It's mostly to generate political momentum for independence.

Here's to my Catalonian relatives, and hoping it goes their way. My uncle doesn't believe it will, though, despite being very nationalistic.
