That's a few ways I can think of "family values" being used for unpleasant purposes.

Well, AFAIK, social services in Britain tends to be heavy on the "We'll seize your children", so limits on that would be nice.

Speaking of anti-gay laws, David Cameron recently has decided that all government policies in England must pass a "family test"
If anyone doesn't see this at some point being used for blocking gay rights or generally doing Nefarious Conservative Things then I would probably call them a liar.

Yeah....this used to be a real common thing in the US about 30-40 years ago. Along with "we can't prosecute male heads of households for disciplining their children, even if that 'discipline' breaks a bone or two. Next thing you know, kids will be sassing their elders, and then Communism."

Of course, with the way kids are now, there are those who say that view was correct (I'm not one of them, btw).
