Why, precisely?
Because I've a hat with "scotland forever" on it.

Also independence of Scotland would make Cameron more concentrated on the issues with nuclear weapons and such, giving him less time for continental European problems...

And also because Scotland has bagpipes, which are one of my favorite instruments.

Would you like European Union's 'sphere of influence' to be larger? To include countries like Syria, Libia, Egypt? They got their own unions, they never asked to be let into the EU, they never wanted anything with it. Besides, we can see a fine example of a 'large sphere of influence' in effect around Russia - a doctrine of 'close abroad', where every country bordering Russia or being close enough and small enough gets fucked with and bullied. If you resist, you get the Georgian 2008, or the current Ukrainian crisis. That's Russia's wide sphere of influence.

You clearly haven't read the statement I made on the previous page where I said that the EU was the only international Union I was comfortable with, and I would rather remove the "European" component and create something called the International Federation, something even Russia could join. Uniting the countries of the world in a union where they can enjoy close ties but full international representation and the right to secede is a step in the right direction, because otherwise we'll just get countries like Russia eroding the independence of their neighbours.

Looking at the polling data, it doesn't look like the referendum is likely to succeed. About a 57/43 split against right now.

The latest poll showed 47% Yes, 53% No. It's far closer than you think. Monitor the results as they're coming in (take a good look at the swing for one) rather than just looking at the average.

Actually... the "poll of polls" shows 45% Yes, 55% No. Where did you get the 43% figure? The times are a' changing RedKing, the poll averages are going to shift quickly over the next while.

There's another YouGov poll coming this Sunday, commissioned by the Sunday Times; the problem is the questions were more negative this time, asking people about their election histories, what their fears are post-Yes vote and so on and so forth. I fear the negative questioning may lead to a dip in the number of Yes votes in the poll, which will be taken as a No victory. I would not be surprised if YouGov did the positive poll as a tactical measure to galvanise the flagging No campaign, given YouGov's bias in favour of the Union and close links with the Conservative Party.

The sad part is, that thing already exists. It's called United Nations.

putting all countries in the world in a single union does not work because capitalism

it will only start working once we deal with it

removing capitalism will not magically unjackshitify the united nations

it's a matter of conflicting national interests, economy is a subset of that

Excuse me but it's been a while.  What part of Das Kapital are you referring to?

I was apparently wrong, it's not the Kapital itself but it was in some other work of Karl Marks.

Also Das Kapital is ridiculously huge. And the version I have before me doesn't have a table of contents.

Battalion Caucasus (one of Pro-Ukrainian units that don't officially exist and not 100% controlled by Ukrainian government) has a good sense of humor
