That seems a really hypocritical thing to say Owlbread, the people of Northern Ireland wanted to be apart from the rest on Ireland. Why is that any worse than Scotland or any other country wanting to split off somewhere else?

Wait, you guys seems to be confused. The Auxies and the Black and Tans were actives in 1919-1922, during the Irish War of independence. The IRA of the day was not the terrorist organization of the 1980, but a liberation army using guerilla tactics on the British forces. And they fought for the whole of Ireland that was then under British rule, not for just for Ulster.

Do you see the difference between mining and destroying? 

I am not fond of methods like that because it is borderline terrorism and Aidar is close to crossing the line. What is worse I suspect that is their own initiative and lack of discipline in all volunteer units disturbs me.
But scorched earth is a  method of war. And "You wanna take that city because you want a power station for your new Abkhazia? You can take it. But then you will have no power-station anyway" kind of determent can actually save a lot of lives
