That kind of humanitarian aid worked in 1993 when Russia supplied Abkhazia
They didn't take Tbilisi, but managed to create de-facto Russian territory. Same goal here.

They also allegedly gave direction, supervision and orders to those carrying out the ethnic cleansing and massacres of Georgian civilians.

Humanitarian blitzkrieg? Humanitarian speed-rush? How would you call that thing?

I would call it... An alms race.

Video of  the "humanitarian convoy"
Look carefully at a vehicle after 1:02. How do you think what is it?

That thing is much longer ranged than Buk, so Strelok will have a chance to shot down few more passenger jets if that "humanitarian aid" will be allowed in

The memorial complex at Saur-Mogila, heavily damaged by fighting between DNR and Ukrainian forces.
In 1943, Soviets fought the Nazis at Saur-Mogila. Who could have known back then that 71 years into the future Saur-Mogila would see fierce fighting once again. Ironically, the "Soviets" are fighting the "Nazis" once again.

Guardian, that's a steaming pile of nonsense and we've been over this so many times it hurts. There is no difference between pravy sektor and the russian nationalists apart from which nationalism they ascribe to.

All I'm going to do is ask you why whenever I've seen you take tests for MSH's political typology thread you come out authoritarian/fascist or right wing every single time? Could it be that you are far closer in ideology and outlook to the Nazis that you've spent the last year accusing (in a really annoying passive aggressive way or directly) all the Westerners and Europeans in this subforum of belongong to a modern day incarnation of? Hey, as long as there's justice and Lukasenko makes the trains run on time who cares about freedom.

And the guy who was in charge of that humanitarian aid mission is now Russian minister of defense

I was under the impression that, if Russia wanted to supply the rebels with men or equipment, they just waltz it across the border.

So a humanitarian mission wouldn't change that equation at all.

What it does do is make collateral damage more of an issue, and if there's a military escort, (particularly a Russian military escort), that collateral damage gets absolutely toxic. It could be used to intentionally hamper Ukrainian military efforts, or outright used as an excuse for invasion if Russian humanitarian workers/escorts get killed.

If there is no Russian military escort, there's very little ground for opposition to the mission to stand on. People need food & water & medical supplies yo. Ukrainian people.

I think they do just that, with the border having next to no guards thanks to the rebels and crappy shape of Ukrainian military. Red cross convoy will just put lot of red cross people in the way of fire to create PR victory for peaceful Russia and against facist nazi-junta in Kiev.

If Russian humanitarian aid will stop at their border and all trucks will be transfered to Ukrainian army to be distributed among civilians, Then there are no reason to refuse. Else it is obvious that Russia bringing soldiers\weapons\supplies in 300 trucks. 300 trucks it is a lot. Add hundred or so of armed vehicles escorting it.  Russia has way to supply but those are low scale, nothing that can compare to sending that much trucks. That kind of convoy is huge. It is enough for months of war

I got the idea that it was intended to the people in the warzone, area not completely under Ukrainian control. Switching escort from Russian to Ukrainian would just make rebels target them...

Then the rebels would get bashed for targeting humanitarian aid convoys.

So you agree that "rebels" is that kind of sum that doesn't care about local population and will fire should Ukraine bring humanitarian aid? If that is true, why should they need Russian aid? Maybe because it is not humanitarian aid but reinforcements?

They are already accused of downing that civilian plane, so there's not much for them to lose.
Anyway, putting civilians intentionally in danger is a big no-no, and having any military escort will cause more trouble than it will solve. Unless rebels have agreed to let the red cross guys move in undisturbed there will be civilian casualties.
