Getting abroad when someone stole enough money is a constant. You could live wherever you wanted if you had enough status in USSR as well. The problem is corruption, not freedom of movement.
How does having a surplus of products of any quality at all NEGATIVELY affect you? Unless there is some odd law that allows shops to dump the products they didn't manage to sell in random citizens' houses, I cannot see that being a thing.
There is no such thing as a pointless company - the proper word is 'bankrupt' company. And paperwork is not an inherent feature of the system - beaurocracy is the issue here.
