Should we use PMs or e-mails?

Maybe we shouldn't do anything at all. Anyway, not on my watch mail.

Yes, I'd also be annoyed if my institutions were in French
Knowing Belgium, the elections might have been declared invalid if said paper had not been in French, or if someone had been so nice to add a translation to it.

hmm i'd also be interested in the  ukrainian discussion thingy...maybe we could use IRC? gives for something a bit less cumbersome than e-mail. Im sad the threads closed though it was nice for getting fresh news.

I don't think I'll participate in any future Ukrainian discussions - arguing in the previous threads was very tiresome, time-consuming and ultimately pointless. I'll participate in any such things if the war starts, which is unlikely right now because Putin is backing down on Ukraine (apparently).

I'm fairly sure the topic is off-limits indefinitely, unless the situation changed enough that it was a different topic. Since that won't happen for some time, Russia and Ukraine are prohibited topics now; bay12 is a neutral zone.

That tends to happen when there isn't a clear right argument.

By the end of it all you just want someone else to speak for you as you no longer can be asked to type anything :P

Or you take my position of 'everything is murky, fuck it, no opinions until it's unkurked'
But then you'd have no opinion on virtually every modern shindig people are shindigging about.

Which I guess in its own way is admirable, if impractical.

Or at least offlimits until things calm down or there is some major change in the situation. Although the heat seems to flare up every time there was a major event, and the chaos of Odessa opened a can of conspiracy theorist worms.

I agree with xxsockxx from a bit earlier, Ukraine is pretty relevant geopolitically.

On the pro-Ukrane Ukranian side, we pretty much only had UR.

Webber apparently was, I think, but instead of being rational, he kept spewing conspiracy theory stuff.

Hmm, what about a compromise, a thread with news from various sources, but kept locked by the OP so no discussion could go on about the issues?
I know that I was gaining some insight to the situation from the discussions, but having easy translated access to ukranian, german, russian, etc news sources still was rather enlightening.
The op could solicit PM's from the saner posters then add them to the OP, Some discourse and opinion could be included, but since the topic would be locked it wouldn't degenerate into the kind of crap we've seen.
The problems with this would be;
1) The op would need to be active for the news to be kept up to date.
2) the op might get flooded by Pm's if any volatile events happen.
3) certain elements who vehemently disagree with the content contained in the thread would be inclined to flood the OP with increasingly angry vitriolic messages.

Edit: Since I mentioned the topic, an australian journalist was detained there and his his body armour taken.
I guess the insurgency is fueled partially by journalite. :p

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.
