So, we come up to "This obnoxious state controlling half-a-cotinent should fall apart already".
Half-a-continent is a minor problem.
USA is not a small country by any means but with well developed transport infrastructure it's much smaller then it looks when we talk about travel and economic ties.

Majority of Siberians have never been in the European Part (and vice versa). Or visited it few times in their life. That's not a way to keep the country in one piece.  Instead for spending $30-50 billions on Sochi Putin would do better investing all that shitload of money on uniting the country.

I am sure that a proper federation will be stable but reforms like those aren't easy. With all hydrocarbon money Russia has a perfect chance to do that with little damage... Instead Putin goes in opposite direction and centralizes the power in Moscow

Though an attack on Russia's existence would certainly be interesting. Just one day -poof-, there's just a whole swathe of clay where once Russia lay. A group of misfits would have to unite to rediscover the Russia in some metaphorical way, like vodka and squatting and Putin the boot in the gays.
This made more sense in my head.

I do agree and fully support this very idea. Just what must be done. By Putin or whoever.

EDIT: It tells me I should go to NSDAP various things. Freck. Maybe I should review my opinions on things around me.

According to this test, I'm an authoritarian socialist. My authoritarianism rating is only 4 percent out of 100, though.

The test also claims that 1 percent of the test participators are in the same category and 88 percent are more extremist than me. Hmhm...

These days social democracy != socialist democracy.
Social democrats tend to favor mixed market economics, with a heavy emphasis on social economic egalitarianism, and high degrees of unionism, but otherwise somewhat free markets. Socially they tend to be very progressive, and in favor of cosmopolitanism over nationalism, but not always.

So the Swiss decided to flip off the EU. I think we should just close the tunnels for a couple of days and see what happens; opinions?

And what is so special about Switzerland in EU? What is the reason to keep it in place? *wondering, 'cause no idea*
