Well, you look at this reasonably geographically-correct map of the UK and tell me what's wrong with their interpretation:

Notice anything wrong with that picture?

The Shetlands are missing?

Does Scotland have any administrative sub-units?

I take it nobody is noticing that Scotland is horribly and almost comically squashed into the smallest size possible, making it nearly the same size as Northern Ireland or the South West of England? Aberdeen is also Dundee in that map for some reason. The problem is BBC maps look like that too:

They tilt the map so we look smaller.

EDIT:

Greatorder got it, so did Descan. Even if you simplified our map hugely like they did with England we've got at least 5-6 sub units that can't be ignored, especially if we're talking about rentals and such. Some companies, usually based in England, refuse to deliver goods to the Western Isles or the Highlands for instance.

Same for Wales, we have a similar number of subdivisions, but everyone simply ignores those, despite the extreme geographical seperation of north and south.

Although Scotland would have much more than the six I referred to if we were to go by the old counties. It really hurts my head when I look at a map of our historical counties:

edit: Why did you replace the pretty picture with MS Paint adventures 2: Revenge of the Fallen?

Just tried to plot GB with 6 randomly chosen map projections.

Unfortunately i am too dumb to upload an image.

Anyway, in 4 of them, scotland is large, in 2 it is tiny. Try for example an Equidistant Cylindrical projection.

Anyway, scotland is about 60  percent in area of englands size. To settle it objectively :)

I apologise, I thought it would be clearer if a bit ugly. I have brought the pretty picture back as the second image.

And yes, my favourite Scottish placename is "Kilmahog".

You can resize it though. Not sure how. I did it twice before but I forgot how :P.
