Honestly, I'd like to see that. A mob of people, picking up a statue and bringing it to the nearest museum.

Yeah, Lenin was an okay dude and doesn't deserve to get smashed. Now if it was a Stalin statue I would've asked them to pee on its remains.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

What if that was a statue of Nero? He has killed a lot of people too.

Don't kill the messenger, it's not the statues' fault if they're carved in the image of despots. Leave them be in museums, they are all a part of history.

I am uncaring as to the fate of dictator statues.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

First reaction: At last

Second reaction: It would be better to wait till victory and sell it on an auction to anyone willing, National property shouldn't be wasted like that.

Well, reminds me of what happened with King Leopold II 's Statue in Kinshasa. They removed it from it's previous location, and moved it to the nearby garbage dump.

They put it back later, but only for a day. I have no idea where it is now.

On other hand remains of the statue will be used on the barricades. It's Lenin's way to use statues

I am uncaring as to the fate of dictator statues.

From a historical point of view it might have had some level of significance... Maybe. Or it could have been one of countless similar statues. As long as some sort of record survives I'm ok with it. I doubt it was that special in any way, but it could have been.

It is kind of like people getting upset that the statue of Hussein got toppled and destroyed when it should have been preserved for history... But if it were never toppled and destroyed it would never have been historically significant and nobody would ever care about it.

If anyone wanted justification for my deep, deep loathing of the Scottish media and the Scottish Labour Party, take a look at the photograph they took of Douglas Alexander, one of my all-time least favourite people in British politics. The photograph was attached to a long-winded article by him about how we should reject independence to show solidarity with working class people in the rest of the UK, an article fawned over universally by political editors, who hailed it as a "new phase" in the debate. They obviously have no recollection of the use of that same argument in 1979 against devolution.

But yes, look at the photo. It's the one at the top:

The second image was added for comparison by my pro-independence compatriots.

If anyone wants to read the article, here is a link.
