Same Sex marriage will be banned soon in Croatia.

Interesting is that this is happening under a left is, pro-same sex marriage government, but their hand is forced by a binding 66% majority referendum. Will be a constitutional ban too, so it will be pretty hard to remove.

Said government has had several fuckups lately and hasn't exactly had an easy time pulling the country out of the shithole the last guys left it in. Also I think that there might be some truth in what my parents said, that because they were so overtly for equality a large number of people who had no stance or were on the fence about the issue vote against it just to spite them.

In any case, this wasn't exactly unexpected but is still disappointing. You can act civilized all you want but the true you shows when it comes to issues like this one.

Croatia recognizes unregistered cohabitations for same-sex couples, but with very limited rights and responsibilities. Unregistered cohabitations were introduced in 2003. The situation is going to change as the government is in the process of recognizing life partnerships, which will provide same-sex couples with most rights and responsibilities to those of a marriage. The Bill is going to be introduced before the Parliament by 15 December 2013, with the final draft being completed before 15 January 2014.[1]

This (the ban) is just about the name of same-sex unions it seems. So nothing too important.

I would say it's the opposite almost. They are simply the most recent shit. Everyone in that whole damned peninsula has done bad (excluding you Jopax, obviously.). It's just one of those places where the less you think about the history the better.
