Additionally, the Snuff thing was not because of a suspected market distortion. It's clearly an example of Public Health starting a battle against tobacco in all it's forms. (Due to illformated laws. It banned all tobacco based flavored products.)

I agree about the most recent hassle (about flavuored products), but to say that the original criminalisation and export ban was because of health reason is ridiculous. Snuff has much lower cancer risks than smoking or drinking, not to mention that unlike those other two drugs snuff only ever damages the user himself. If that is a supposed strike against the tobacco business then it's badly aimed and strangely enough almost only hits Swedish businesses. It's far more likely this would drive snuff users towards other forms of tobacco, which, of course, are mainly produced by other European countries.

Basically, the whole ban just seems like a way to stick it to Sweden. It's not logical, reasonable, or just in any way.

Actually, you could also say that the Canada-Eu treaty will allow the EU to stand stronger in the negotiations, because that agreement is going to be voted in one way or another.
Yes, it will.

Yes, you are correct. I should have thought of a better example. It is still bizarre, I think. "Snus" by the way. "Snuff" goes through the nose.

Additionally, hormones in meat are forbidden (As stated in the Free trade agreement) as are many GMO products. So don't worry about it.
Fortunately they are. The ban has been ruled against by the WTO. I am quite happy that the EU just accepted the ruling and went on. (According to the article, "Canada and the U.S. imposed $125 million in total extra annual tariffs of goods coming from the EU. The tariffed goods change each year to have maximum effect.", a measure which is still in effect).

Scotland's population, like those of other small European countries, is aging. Not as badly as some people suggest, but it is still aging and generally stagnating. We need far, far more young people to create a workforce that's big enough for our plans for the future, and that's regardless of independence.
I wouldn't say stagnating, the 20's age group is growing as well as the 60's one, and Scotland's doing well on employment. Also apparently there are 800 centenarians in Scotland, which is neat.

As a snuff fan, this is of interest to me - what is snus, and are there plans to ban snuff?

Snus is semi-moist and of almost soil-like texture and you form it into a ball and put it under your upper lip, making your breath stink and your mouth taste horribly. Most people use "portioned" snus which comes in small... Bags, I guess you can call it. So they don't have to shape it themselves and such, and I guess it stays together better when in a bag too and such.

"Real" snuff, in contrast, is dry and snuffed, hence the name. Snuff is the usual translation of snus too, though. So it can mean both.

Beyond murder porn, it's also a form of tobacco and a couple of different verbs. Nothing like having a single word with four+ different meanings and no alternate spellings.

Since "sprit" is the Swedish word for booze, I'm going to assume you just called English the Drunken Language.

And agree

Esprit ain't really used for booze in French, but we use spiritueux, derived from the same root. He meant "That's the spirit".

Protip: It's one if the most known sayings in the world at least Europe.

I was making a bad pun. In another language. That needed explaining and had awkward timing.

I am suddenly disappointed in my comicism skills.

... english is definitely an outright arsehole. A drunken arsehole.

It's kinda' like someone took the degree of alcoholic libation needed to pick other languages word gender thingies and applied it to an entire bloody language. And I know enough of french, just as an example, to know the people that assigned gender were absolutely shitfaced.
