I doubt the EU would expand too much if it included Turkey. For one, it'd be pressing up snugly against the Middle East, and I seriously doubt many there want to join (although you get Syrian refugees then!).

you mean to say more syrian refugees

the union ain't australia as much as some parties might wish it to be

...the irony of a prison colony having its own prison colony hit me just now wow that took like a year and a half but that's unrelated to the fact that absorbing parts of the middle east would be pretty nice if for the mere ability to enforce democracy in a non-american manner and overall push things towards development like we did in the nineteenth and previous centuries right guys

quick disclaimer that not everybody in the eu/on the continent/who is not a tangerine did that thanks

And nope, liberal values aren't enough.
What else do you think is required? The Union is pretty diverse already, culturally speaking.

I think you guys are too optimistic too think that EU is a basis of the future planetary government or one of the few "mega-countries"...

EU is based on what I call Post-Christianity agnostic liberal ideology.  Can't see any non-minor country with different ideas joining EU.
i think that makes a lot of sense.

i don't think you can compare the cultural differences between european countries with those they have with the rest of the old world. you would find a lot more common points with any country in the americas. religion is not the least of these

It's funny, all that talk of Wales on the last few pages and I wake up to this:

A message from Wales to Scotland about independence.

I need to get "ie i'r alban" tattooed on my heart or something.

If only the Independence campaign had been named 'Let It Go' from the start. It's subtle brainwashing via ear worm.

Poroshenko ordered a cease-fire for 7 days as a part of his peace plan.....

How many civilians will be killed, raped or robbed during this week?
How much Russian supplies and weapons will reach the destination?
How more effective their defense will become after they'll regroup and entrench further?

All of that only for the image of a good guy, who tried to solve everything peacefully.... Maybe it is necessary for international politics, but that will raise deathtoll by thousands

The rebels (or should I continue using the term protestors? Though it's gone FAR beyond the level of mere protest) rejected the cease fire, so I hear. Kind of hard to uphold a cease-fire if the other side keeps shooting at you.

That one is one-sided ceasefire... Our troops allowed to shoot back but not allowed conduct offensive operations. IMO That means serving as a target. You can't effectively stop an enemy attack without a counter-attack

In other news, Poroshenko now looks like a Putin agent.

And to think that guy got 55% of the votes  :o

spoiler alert putin does happen to have at least semi-competent agents how do you think he's still in power

but i wouldn't say he's an agent outright, he just doesn't exactly have the balls what with his own fortune at stake should this escalate
