Meanwhile, in David Cameron's mind...

Well done, Cammy, you alienated a large number of voters.

I mean, I think he's saying 'we're mostly Christian', but it SOUNDS like he's saying 'We're all Christian' to me.

He probably coulda worded it better.

And thus ends Cameron's attempt to rope in the Middle Englanders. He's a right haiverel, ain't he.

parking and traffic fines are also rarely followed upon.

I'll be there by the end of the week.

That's still not really true. Sure, 60% is a majority, but not massively so.

Of course the United Kingdom is a "Christian state". Our Head of State is the head of the national church, ceremonial or otherwise, and a body of unelected clerics make up part of the national legislature. Whether or not the "nation", which is separate from the state, is Christian is up for debate.

As a side note, remember when the Chancellor of the Exchequer decided to say that Scotland wouldn't be able to use the pound sterling if we became independent? Remember how much of a hubbub there was associated with it back then?

Why is there a bump right before one year to polling day?

Why is there a bump right before one year to polling day?

Good question. I'm not entirely certain what happened back in September 2013 besides the second March and Rally for Scottish Independence but that shouldn't have had much effect at all. Probably the papers saying "it's one year until the referendum" concentrated some minds.

I think it's hilarious that the Yes side was stagnating and kinda-sorta lingering downwards until around the Pound thing, where it suddenly arches violently upwards.

Finally the Scottish people will be free from that sticky Pound.

How does one cheers a free Scotland in Gaelic?

The one people have taken to saying is "Saor Alba" meaning "Free Scotland", pronounced "Soor Alapah". The other is "Alba gu brath" pronounced "Alapah goo bra" meaning "Scotland Forever", possibly a quote from Braveheart or an adaptation of the old Irish nationalist slogan Éirinn go Brách. I have heard it is actually a Jacobite slogan but I don't know for certain. The Jacobites were certainly more Nationalist than people gave them credit.

But yeah it's common to see guys saying stuff like "SAOR ALBA 2014".

That graphic is still rather useless without the error margins and stuff added. you don't even know if the change is signfiicant.

The 1-year bump seems to be mostly an artifact of many polls being conducted around that time.

So has there been any discussion of what Scotland's currency would be if not the pound sterling?
I assume they're not planning to join the Eurozone, and the pre-Union currency was...the pound. I guess they could go back to the "Pound Scots", but that's boring.  :P
