Doesn't look rusted enough to be WWII.

Obviously the first thing to do is find the subs designation numbers.

Its a midget sub; definitely not WW2 era. From the 1980s at most. We need better pics to be able to ID it...

For all we know there could be Finns sealed inside that submarine, angry from years of sobriety

Let's do the hypothetical: What if they do find dead, only-slightly-rotted Russians inside?

If we're making the assumption that Russia managed to lose one of their submarines in the not-too-distant past (say, the last couple years) and hid it?  Sweden will return their bodies to Russia with a politely worded note to please not violate Swedish national waters again, or at least to not get caught doing it again.  If salvage is practical, the sub itself might get returned as well.  There'll be a brief flurry of "let's join NATO" from the usual suspects, which will go nowhere.  Russia gets a bit of mud on their face for losing a submarine, with the assumptions of a cover-up in the Navy, but frankly, all the tales of disappearing soldiers who most definitely and certainly weren't KIA in the Donbass aren't going anywhere; finding out that their Navy hid an accident that cost them a sub and the lives of a however-many submariners won't make much of a splash either, so to speak.

I would be a bit surprised if that were the case, though.

Why would the sub be returned, though? It must make for incredibly important intel.

helgo imagine if you lost your ball in someone's backyard

then said someone finds the ball

if they don't like you very much, and want the ball, they'll take the ball

but if they have no reason to input the very into the above, they'll return the ball because otherwise they can't expect you to return their ball should they lose one

that's the general idea

of course, nothing stops you from taking a very good look at the ball first, however.
Either way, for all we know it could belong to anyone.

Why would Russia go silent if it was a recent submarine lost?

You seem to presume Helgo has only one ball

Because saying they lost the sub would be a confession.

Well we do love comparing him to the Nazis.

Then Russian TV will produce few dozens of conspiracy theories.

As much as I hate to root for death... that would be a pretty entertaining round of propoganda.  Who do you think sunk the submarine and dragged it there?  Americans or Swedes?  Okay... who am I kidding?

So, the first version of Russian media - it is WW1 submarine.
