I thought you were supposed to be like super nationalistic. Isn't wanting a foreigner in charge a contradiction?
I am not a "traditionalist" kind of nationalist. Nation should progress and look for new ways instead of repeating what ancestors did few centuries back. Roots are essential but plant needs to grow to the sun not stay close to the ground.
Guys in charge are nothing but hired managers. And I believe that Saakashvili is a rather good manager. Also, Georgian Patriot is interested in prospering Ukraine because if Ukraine will collapse, then Russia will have its hands free to deal with Georgia.
He also invited Maria Gaidar, the daughter of former Russian Prime Minister Yegor Gaidar, to serve as adviser for social reforms
She will be not an advicer for social reforms. Her appointment caused many protests and she got more generic post, something like "unofficial advicer"
Fun fact - Maria Gaidar called Saakashvili "disgusting" in her blog back in 2008
Police reform is also on Saakashvili's agenda. In partnership with Eka Zguladze, Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Interior, Saakashvili has promised to launch a new police service in Odesa by the end of August 2015. Like Kyiv's new police, young men and women with untainted reputations and uncompromising positions on corruption will staff the Odesa force.
To be honest, Saakashvili has little to do with it. Same process goes in other cities and new police is cool. It is the most visible reform. Sadly it will take years to replace all branches of police in all cities.
Saakashvili may be ahead of his time. Sadly, some of his revolutionary ideas won't see the light of day in Odesa because they are contingent on parliament passing some additional laws. If parliament doesn't adopt these laws in the next three to four months
Most likely in 3-4 months we will have new constitution were president appointed governors will have much less power and local counciils getting more.
