Oh dear lord. I've been looking into our politics more and more and it's feeling more and more like the UK's (England's, especially) politicians are operating under a 'Fuck you, got mine!' system.

Today: greatorder learns how conservatism works.

I knew how it worked. I just didn't know to what degree it worked.

So looks like the Tories are backing down on repealing the Human Rights Act, mostly because it's a near impossible solution to a largely undefined and non-existent problem. Their supposed 100 day priority is now maybe have a draft in 100 days to pass to a consultation for a few years. IIRC no draft has surfaced in the last 9 years of this being Conservative party policy, and the last attempt to create one failed to get beyond the title in about 3 years.

I have to wonder how much you could affect politics as the leader of an insignificant party just by making election promises.
