Ah, where to start.
About
reaction of Russian ambassador to Denmark, Michail Vanin: this kind of reaction just confirms why it is wise to enter and stay in military aliance pact to protect yourself from dangerous bully. There is pretty good reason why many former Soviet satellite states flocked to NATO. Georgia and Ukraine are good example what happens to non-NATO neighbours of Russia.
Current debacle may encourage certain non-NATO countries like Finland or Sweden to consider becoming NATO members. Of course Russia then will cry about NATO
"surrounding" Russia again.
"will become targets for Russian nuclear missiles"
I would be very surprised if they
already weren't.
About nukes bringing peace: ever heard about
proxy wars? While probability of global war indeed diminished significantly, smaller conflicts are more numerous. Such is
paradox of stability-instability.
About Russia-NATO war: I can't see why USA or EU would want to start war with Russia in current geo-political situation (not to mention whole MAD thing). This is
conspiracy theory-level of paranoia right here. Including bare-chested Putin riding on laser-eyed bear.
What will be next? Which country will have it's Russian miniority suddenly discovering they need "protection" (or whatever BS excuse will be used by Russia)? One thing is certain - it will not end with Ukraine. Crimea anshluss and invasion of Ukraine is just beginning of Cold War 2.
We can only hope it will not end up with major european war, but I am not that optimistic. Putin want to
resurrect USSR v2.0. If he manages to
discredit NATO, all bets are off.
