You guys just can't stop talking about Russia, don't you?
Seriously, you have internet, which allows you to soothe the tenses your governments force on you by speaking directly to people half over the globe to see they are no less and no more human than you are, and all you do is ensue the conflict? From both sides? Why do you do that?

Well, if some guy in the White House decides that Russia can be easily defeated by conventional means and bombs start falling at my home one summer morning, [abbr=""YOU FUCKERS HAVE BOMBED MY FUCKING HOUSE FUCK YOU NATO FASCIST SCUM" - "It's all your fault, Guardian - if you had aligned yourself with the West, this wouldn't have happened"" - "WELL FUCK YOU YOU SC-" -nuked-]all this Internet connection won't make my situation any better[/abbr].

You're in Belarus anyway, not Russia.

Belarus is a Russian military ally housing Russian aircraft and strategic land connections leading to Moscow. We'll be hit on day 1 if shit hits the fan.

Also, pardon me if I sound flamey, but the popular sentiment stating that the West can easily win a conventional war with Russia is very much present, among both ordinary people and Pentagon strategists, and that is really dangerous.

Provided, of course, that they don't try to invade during the winter. Is there still anyone who hasn't learned that lesson yet?

Winter has been relegated to pretty much a non-factor outside of morale due to technology.

Amusing fact:

The arctic and pacific coasts of russia are now venting methane at potentially flammable levels, as are the steppes themselves.  This venting is suspected to be a possible cause for the mysterious "craters" that are showing up out there with increasing regularity.

This, coupled with conventional bombs, could make the steppes into a far more hostile environment than this thread's discussion has considered so far. (EG, russians hiding out there might not survive so well.)

Russia also has spring, roads, and roads in spring. Also forests. Lots and lots of big forests. Forests with an occasional swamp in the middle.

Russians hide in forests and marches, not steppes. Nobody hides in steppes. They're not a "hiding" terrain.

I presume you mean mountainously craggy areas. These days, we have vehicles able to traverse these in all weather conditions. Not the same kettle of fish that we had in the second world war, and prior.

Forests are easy to deal with, you burn them.

Yeah I gotta admit that the foliage in the background is very obvious camouflage.

Still ruins my joke, though.

There are millions and millions of square miles of forest over there, do you REALLY want to burn all of that?

Also, I thought steppes were more grassy.

Nice to know someone might be able to conquer Russia by doing even more damage.

Why the hell is everyone so eager to prove they could win a war?
You can't. You'll lose either way. If anyone wins its the people supplying the weapons.

Steppes cover a wide variety of terrain. Everything from dry pebbles, to frozen tundra like areas, to muskeg bogs, to grasslands.

Most of those have camouflage options available that are terrain appropriate.

The Swiss?

Or more accurately, whoever isn't actively or directly fighting.

Armchairs are for peaceful philosophizing and lucubration. They should not be weaponized.
