So the Lib Dems' Faustian bargain with Cameron didn't turn out so well for them, I take it?

Indeed it didn't. They're utterly doomed. They sacrificed all of their principles while in government and now there's literally no difference between them and the Conservatives. I honestly can't think of one meaningful difference in policy.

Then again a tiny part getting into coalition with a bigger one is fucked either way. They either submit to the wills of the bigger party or risk being under constant attacks by their coalition partner and the opposition and getting ground to pieces.

Unless the survival of the coalition (in terms of quorum) depends on their support. Look at Israel, in the past you've had tiny ultra-orthodox parties dragging along Likud through threats of "we'll pull out and join Labor" and thus early elections and the loss of power. (Of course, Israeli politics rival Italy in terms of party fractionalism and instability).

Or actually standing by their principles and refusing to be bullied into acquiescence by their "partner".

Might actually have made the Lib Dems seem like they can be good in government, but no, they now look like a child always looking to their mother for acknowledgement of doing something well.

Damn Britishers and your red-blue inversion. I keep staring at this, going "But I thought Labour was on the ropes in England...."

EDIT: What's the orangish bits around the coasts and central Wales, Lib Dem? I'm assuming the forest green is Plaid Cymru, the pink is the Ulster Unionists and buggered if I know what the two other green bits are over there.

Weren't the democrats and republicans actually red and blue respectively until like the 90s?

Until 2000, from what I can tell. The first election that a lot of people paid attention to in their lives, or at least where the result was close enough to pay attention to rather than "Guy A wiped out Guy B by a landslide". I was surprised it was that recent, but then again in 1992 and 1996 I was probably too busy partying to remember. All I remember of those two races is wanting to vote for Perot (wasn't 18 yet) and "lol Bob Dole is olllllld".

In the future as we debate between the death camps and the being used as hosts for the hive we will look back on those simpler days of politics with nostalgia.

Meanwhile, the Greek crisis continues. ECB launched warning shots against the greek banking sector, refusing to accept Greek state bonds as collateral for loans. This means that the Greek financial sector is now dependant on it's own central bank, as it's last lifeline.

So, in other words, they've just cut themselves adrift? Or just had the rope to their boat cut and are adrift.

That may be part of their plan if they are bona fide Robin-Hood-Leftists whose true goal is socialist revolution. If they are actually trying to save their bankers and fat cats, they are just bloody stupid.

Which sounds a lot more extreme then it actually is.  Central banks acting as lenders of last resort is the foundation of the post-Breton Woods banking system.  It certainly represents both sides throwing down the gauntlet but it's not actually a terribly climatic state of affairs.

So in today's installment of "Let's mock the French derpy reaction to a terrorist attack", Paris ban actions movie shooting, in case someone mistake them for a real attack or something.

Why oh why are the conservatives so damned popular?

Because they're not led by Ed Miliband?

Nah, they're popular because they have Boris.
