Yes that makes far more sense, thank you for the explanation.

The free goblin who dug the pit should help building the roundhouse

Also getting a fire up and running for warmth (and cooking that kill when the scout brings it back) would be an idea.

Goblin Scout: Finish dragging the corpse back.
Human Scout: Return to camp, try to catch a few more Hats.
Leader: Figure out a way to restrain the Hats. Maybe put some rocks against the cliff to form a mini-pen?
Anyone not working: Help drag and prepare the corpse once they can if they have nothing better to do.

Do we have the materials to make a barrel or something. Finding something o hold water soon would be a very very good idea.

We should avoid completely deforesting our immediate area, unless we want to keep it clear for defensive purposes, in which case we would need some sort of ranged weapon or else it is sort of a moot point...

Or build mounds around our fort. Like walls, just less effective.

To get the dirt, dig a trench outside our fort. Also, put a wall on top. You now have a motte and baily castle.

Yes. Dig a 5-foot deep trench just outside of where the palisade will stand, leaving (for now) a six-foot wide high spot for getting in and out of the town.

Gore which I then place into the coffin,

Turn 10

Turn 10:

Site:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You begin to make a small pen for your hat. It will take another two turns, making something with a small animal trying to get off your head is tough work.

The goblin scout returns with a dead deerple. Gargle helps him drag it in and offers to butcher it as long as he gets the guts for the birthing pit. Having him do some work would be nice but you sure would like to eat those guts yourself. Monty is eager to get the bones for his shrine.

The goblin who dug the pit helps with the construction of the roundhouse roof. It will be done next turn.

You consider digging a ditch around the settlement and using the dirt to build a mound. With only the one shovel it will take a while to do but combined with a palisade will give you some good defenses.

You think you'll need someone to make a fire to cook the deerple. No one is idle though so you'll have to take someone off doing another job to get it done.

The Human miner has some good news! There is trace amounts of Hexium in the rock. With some more digging you'll get some usable amounts. Hexium is an ore that has two uses, it can either be smelted in a few turns at high heat leaving you with a standard grey metal or it can be smelted slowly at lower temperatures for just under a day which allow it to keep the ore's yellow colouring and increasing it's value. Keeping the colouring does however make the metal far more brittle.

The Human scout finds the road. This road meets up with the main trade route one area to the east.
He begins to head back.

Let Gargle have the guts.

Have a Woodcutter make a fire.

Voting against building defence for the time being. We do not currently have food and water supplies...

Promote the goblin that built the birthing pit to refuse manager with the duties of maintaining the birthing pit and keeping the place uncluttered.

Investigate the possibility of producing hats milk cheese.

Use your mighty smithing powers to produce fire!
