No, he believes it, if only because things coincidentally started going a lot better for him about the time he joined the Forsaken. I believe he unofficially joined them like a chapter or two after Tantallos was introduced and then got a C-rank with Ami, and then during the timeskip in which he officially joined the Forsaken he got a B-rank with Ami and a C-rank with Tant and Oli. Or in less meta-gamey terms, he got a girlfriend, made friends, and started to feel like he belonged somewhere.

So... yeah. From his point of view, there are many obvious upsides to becoming a follower of the Plague Dragon and no apparent downsides.

While working today I had a dream in which Valor gave Chris a poisoned drink, but before the assassin can drink Gregor and Charlotte go downstairs to announce their union. Chris gives Gregor the drink in celebration and goes off to get another for himself...you see where this is going.
I remember that dream!me was super pissed off at dream!SC for passing the drink off like that

What I don't get about this: Chris is a trained spy and will likely notice the effects of the poison before they become fatal (assuming the poison gets consumed at all). His fiancee is our best healer, and Ernest said that plenty of healing magic will neutralize the poison. And even assuming she can only hold it at bay, we have money for a Restore staff and will be getting it after the wedding, which will neutralize the poison entirely.

I'm far from certain Valor can easily kill Chris in a straight-up fight, so I doubt that's what BMM's planning. I just don't see how this can work out in any way other than Valor betraying himself to no avail; either by confessing what Ernest threatened him with or by revealing himself as a (unwilling) traitor.
