Consider this: Gregor and Derick have a duel with same quality weapons (Iron, for example) and in neutral conditions (no terrain, supports and so on). On whom you would bet?

Derick the Swordmaster of Doom
Gregor the Tanky Stab-Sentinel

Honestly, it works pretty well if I just rename STR to DEX :P
I'm keeping the framework the same here because it does work, but if it doesn't work out in playtesting I'll change things up.
and by playtesting I mean screwing around in maptools

I mean, the setting is kind of supposed to be like a Fire-Emblem-ish setting but advanced into the future, so I kept the same kind of magic (I just imagine the spells would have evolved over time, also I want to make them :p)

Does it take place on Mars?

So I, on a whimsy, am working on a sci-fi modification of the FE tabletop.
I've already figured out the major mechanical changes- essentially, instead of 1 ranged weapon type (Bows) and 3 melee (Swords, Axes, Lances), there are 3 ranged (Laser, Gauss, Heavy Weapons), and one melee (Swords).
Laser beats Gauss beats Heavy Weapons.
Laser's like low powered but accurate, Gauss is moderate, and HW is High AT but high WT.
And though the magic weapons triangle is staying the same, I'm going to make it new spells anyway.
I had a similar idea for a WWII-themed FE mod.

The weapons triangle is replaced with a Gun triangle: Shotgun > SMG > Carbine > Shotgun. Then you'd have the Marksman's Rifle, which takes the place of arrows.

For the magic triangle, we'd have Special Operations: Demolitions > Support Gunner > Chemical Weapons > Demolitions. Staffs would be replaced by the Medic/Radio Operator.

Just trying to think of a way to include armored vehicles...

I'm not making a specific setting for it, only tailoring the fluff of the mechanics towards a kind of setting.

Also, mounts in the sci-fi are like powered exoskeletons (I call them exosuits)

Manaketes. Obviously. Or, alternatively, replacements for great knights.

I like a WWII mod even better, for the record.

Both of those might work.

And it obviously wouldn't actually be WWII, but it would have similar levels of technology. Like that PS3 game that I really wanted to try, but have no PS3 :P

Individual campaigns could be hosted on mars, but I'm not going to force any specific settings.

Valkyria Chronicles? I have the PSP sequel. It is awesome. I was actually considering basing a forum game on it.

Metal-clad dragon-dinosaurs as mounts in sci-fi FEF.

And Manaketes would be those metal-clad dragon-dinosaurs that gained intelligence cuz computer shenanigans.

EDIT:

And the plot would be about young soldiers dealing with outbreak of super-wise dragons against humans to the point of threatening whole humanity v:
