Consider this: Gregor and Derick have a duel with same quality weapons (Iron, for example) and in neutral conditions (no terrain, supports and so on). On whom you would bet?

Derick the Swordmaster of Doom
Gregor the Tanky Stab-Sentinel

Last I recall, game based off of Riddle of Steel, which has the most interesting and in depth melee combat I've seen. Called shots, combat maneuvers, phases of assaults, severity and variance in wounding and hit locations, wide variety of weapons that differ, ability to devote and choose how much you want to dedicate to defense or offense... Combat is fast and very, very lethal. Its possible to die on the first turn, if you don't devote enough to defense or are unlucky.

Riddle of Steel's gone and bit the dust though and you can't find a legit version of the PDF anymore. SoS is still up and around. Started around a guy named John Galt who wanted to fix Riddle of Steel because it had great potential, but some bits just didn't end up right. Never played RoS so I can't really say what it got wrong, but some things weren't balanced too well if I recall.

Seems its taken up by an actual company now instead of a project on an image board, but I haven't been following it for, well, ever beyond hearing about it. Free and in Beta, pdf is a poorly formatted but I'm giving it a look over.

I'm not lying, it is. Terribly complex with tables to look up to see what x amount of damage does to y body part, which comes with stun, bleed, pain, which each affects the actions you can take and do along with whatever horrible thing that could happen from being stabbed/slashed/bashed.

Personally, I love that stuff, but I also love keeping things concise. Its hard to achieve both a satisfying depth while maintaining easy simplicity, outside of games where computers do that stuff behind the scenes for you at least. This falls quite far on the complexity and depth side, not so much the simple side.

I wouldn't suggest it for long standing games (certainly not while it is unfinished) if the people playing it don't have some idea of what they're doing (never mind that there's a not-insignificant-chance of terrible death which is a downer in most long campaign) but it can be fun for a quick spin and some mindless combat.

EDIT: Comment before I pass out, Haspen, Olison gains a +1 to damage from his support with Valor.

Or weapon triangle, whichever bonus you forgot.

Either way, Olison smoked that first wyvern in the first attack.

Oh yeah forgot that bonus damage...

Wait.

* Haspen has to look post over. Don't post actions yet.

EDIT: You little bastards. Turns out that corrected damage is equal to HP of Wyvern B... so I had to redirect second attack to Wyvern A. At least this one didn't got crit'd >3>

Hue.

Okay, Wyvern A has only 12 hp left, so Seyena can auto him into the dirt, then move into position.

That will leave the choke ready for plugging, and we may want Alex and Sal doing that.

We can figure out the north choke shortly.

We're waiting for Gamer to follow the plan. Getting around the time to consider posting for him though.

No, I was just about to post when I saw someone posted before me.

I suggest Gamer have Seyena attack at 18,4 instead of 19,4, as she can be one hit by the wyvern as is and is in counter range. We need her to move to 19,5 however, which canto can take care of.

EDIT: Whew, was a little worried there she might of gotten downed. Her spot there can work fine, although I doubt she'll survive the coming wyvern swarm. Sal can rescue/release her out of the danger zone though if he's to head there, but then he couldn't heal Alexander as I planned if he headed there.

I somehow forgot to add a one in front of 14 and 15 several times. :v

?
Not really combat music, at least in my opinion. More like, music one could see a tactical planning montage. Its all build up and a steady rhythm, not much energy that one would expect in a pitched conflict. That would of been a good prelude to the battle however. Pre-Breach would of been a mildly energetic song with sharp but short changes and a sense of desperation. The breach would probably be a very energetic, chaotic song that doesn't really give one's ears a break.

I'll throw out some songs in a bit.
