It feels rushed to me because I like to make characters that have to have stuff dragged out of them, not them dragging it out themselves. I feel you endear a greater impact personally, but it probably isn't very conductive in these settings of PBP, but it's how I like to write them. They'd be perfectly fine if no one poked and prodded at them, but you never get to their meat and bones unless you did.

...That all probably sounded very pretentious.

Yes, it is a Latin name, it means "Commander Mace". Blame my passion for maces and other bludgeon weapons. Anyway, at least during combat at most of occasions it wasn't possible because most of flying units were really far away from him (Which includes Sal), but I guess right now it is possible.
