It makes sense to me, seeing how mages get levitate and sage is just a promotion from mage. I also don't see where in the rules it specifies that promoted classes loose out on previous classes specials...

First page of First Classes (page 29), just before it starts describing specific Special effects.

Any class that doesn't have this listed on their page doesn't have it, even if they had it before. For instance, a Pegasus Rider no longer has Horseback, and only has Pegasus.

It doesn't match up how it works in the games either in this specific instance (magic promotes would have a levitation effect on desert tiles as well), so I'm curious if it was house-ruled otherwise somewhere.

They do lose the previous class' skill unless it is mentioned again in the promotion.

And every mage/monk/priest promotion has Levitation v:

Well, since Haspen has just used it with his own sages and didn't bring it up with us using it before... I guess it's been house ruled that we have it? I dunno...

Yeah.  I think someone screwed up while moving specials over to the promotes.  Levitation doesn't affect any mage promotes, Ballista doesn't affect any (non-mounted) archer promotes, Swashbucklers have Sea Fighting without Sea Walking...I'm surprised that mounted units still have Pegasus/Wyvern/Horseback.
