Middle mouse problems
« on: February 09, 2013, 01:41:01 pm »

I'm tired of this mouse I currently have not having a consistent middle mouse button. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't unless pressed hard. The rest of it works fine, but trying to play games that I want to play with a missing button when theres not always a rebindable keys option for it is annoying. So, I'm asking you guys a good way to either fix the problem, or a decent mouse that won't just stop having a working middle mouse a few months after I get it. Something under $60 would be good, but it doesn't matter if its corded or wireless.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

you can try to dismantle the mouse and clean it out though you might be better off with a new one then.

The only screw I can see on the mouse is above the battery (under the battery when I flip i over to get the battery out to see it), so I don't think I'd be able to get to anything worth unscrewing it for.

its a logitech m185, Wireless laser mouse i got as a present.

Is there some gunk in between the mouse wheel and left/right mouse buttons?

I was having this problem on mine (also a logitech irrc, but wired.) It was a fairly old mouse. I'd clean it repeatedly but after a few months I gave up and got a new mouse. I didn't go as far as compressed air but you might try that.

Razer Death Adders are right at $60. I've had one for about 8 months now and it's been pretty solid, even though I was cautioned about middle mouse problems by someone else. The matt coating on the surface of it also seems to kind of repel crud, which is nice.

I can say that I've had no middle mouse button problems with both Death Adders that I had, and ony had to replace one since that cloth-thing coating on the cable was shrinking and tearing for whatever reason. It generally has a long staying life too, being pretty much the longest lasting computer accessory I've had.

Well, sounds like my older mouse then, except for being newer and having a cord. It was some other logitech mouse that we'd got before the last computer we had, outlasted that one, and then only gave out when it wouldn't recognize a battery anymore. This mouse, not so great.

I have a logitech G... I think it was 400.  Comes with more buttons, wich can be usefull for some games. Two of the six buttons are used to configure sensitivity tough. It's worked pretty well so far.

I had this problem too. Sticking a toothpick into the space around the wheel and cleaning it did the trick.

It could be just you have some dirt between the mouse buttons.

Well, after seeing the inside of the mouse, I'd say its just not very accurate at hitting the button. There wasn't anything inside it like dirt.

The switch/button worked perfectly fine when I was pushing it with the toothpick after taking the top half of the mouse off, I was able to open any number of tabs with only one or two extra presses. Pressing the other buttns was more difficult, but only due to them being similarily small when you don't have the mouse top to push them for you.

With the mouse actually put back together, its this small lever-like thing under the scroll wheel you push down with the scroll wheel to actually hit it.

Maybe the tab or w/e that your mouse wheel rests against is either gunkified or misaligned? Generally when there's some small interference like that you rip your device apart...the simple act of deconstructing it clears whatever obstruction there was. It's weird you can put it back together and it continues to do the same thing.

The mouse is two pieces (both mainly plastic), one screw, and a circuit board. (and a battery), with no gunk. I'm not sure exactly where the lever-thing sits when its closed, theres barely a slit on the top to see through.
