Well, I enjoyed the Random Dungeon Generator, but I agree that the incredibly harsh death penalty could easily render it pretty unfun.

On one hand, I like the fact that dying carries a real penalty because it encourages people to play more carefully and makes things a bit more tense and exciting. On the other hand, being the level 1 person in a level 6 group all night because you slipped up and died once is going to flat out suck, especially since enemies will probably be one-shotting you so you can't advance unless you stay entirely out of combat (boring).

Speaking as someone who's never touched module-editing... How hard would be it to modify this module such that the death penalty is limited to losing a single level at a time, instead of being shoved all the way back to level 1? That would be much easier to recover from, especially later on.

That's assuming people want to continue with this module at all, I guess.

I thought it was pretty good as-is, though a mechanism to force players to read through the journal entries before they could enter the dungeon would have improved things.
The losing XP is a bit harsh, but considering that most of the group could save you at any point sort of balances it.
Perhaps a 1-2k xp loss would be more balanced, but then the revive should be a LOT harder, or removed altogether.

I'm glad I grabbed the mod files for this though, as I'll probably do a few solo runs in my down time.

I'm up for doing this module as a failsafe most any week.

I'm here. We can play if people want.

I suspect it would be far simpler to simpler remove the custom on_death scripts. By default, when a character chooses to respawn they simply lose 10% of their xp and gold.

I'll take a look. Should be a quick fix.

Good session.
The removed hardcore death sure made things more fun, though a bit less challenging.
Pity the DM wasn't playing a character, but understandable, as it's almost a bit overcrowded for a single party as it is.

Hopefully I figure out the cause of these crashes I keep getting. Wouldn't want to leave you guys without a meatshield.

The RDG seems to be scaling with our levels quite nicely, not overwhelming, but far from starving us of XP.
Made 4 levels tonight. Quite a feat since I started at 4.

Thanks.

Considering changing it to return dead players back to town. The xp/gold penalty is enough to make dying something you'd rather avoid, but the ability to infinitely respawn in place until the monsters are dead, as you say, removes a lot of the challenge.

Was convenient to have a DM though. For example, when people got stuck between the portals.

Wanted to let you guys know I probably won't be at the session this week.
Two things led to this; I haven't traced the crash problem down yet, and might be out on a date.

I'm in our chatroom with Hati and Beardocles. Looks like we're down most of the party. Thinking we might just let this die.

I hope this isn't going to die.
I was still looking forward to next week, even though (or probably moreso) I missed this week.

So... with regards to the attempt to hunt down a persistent world...

... any luck? I'm seeing a few that look vaguely interesting (Among the ones still running on this list), but not much luck in finding one that would be, ah. Independently hostable, I guess you could say? UPs sto connect to, but not so much files to host with. And I'm unsure how desirable that would be. I could kinda' see the appeal of not being bothered by random... other people, heh.

Hadn't heard of it, but going by the vault entry it does seem maybe kinda' interesting? Potential problem being that I don't think everyone that's been showing up has CEP, and more than that anything that pushes the engine as much as it claims to is... probably risky. We've been having a certain degree of technical issues, heh.

Might be worth a try, though.
