I don't know if it's different in pathfinder, but sorcerers play the spellcaster role just fine, in a different way than wizards.  A wizard can know a massive number of spells, technically he can learn all the Wizard/Sorcerer spells in the game if he's diligent enough and has a fuckhueg library.  But, he has to memorize them beforehand which actually limits his versatility on a day-by-day basis and he'll end up wasting some spells usually.  Sorcerers can't know as many spells and have to be careful about which ones they pick (Mage Armor, for example, is useful forever, whereas Summon Monster I quickly becomes useless and a waste of a slot), but since he doesn't have to memorize spells he doesn't have to worry about predicting how a game will go.  If it's pure combat he can cast a million fireballs and not have any slots wasted on non-combat spells, and vice versa.

A Sorcerer who doesn't specialise in Abjuration (hurty killy magic) tends to be severely weakened. Add in that illusions that arn't "odd" illusions tend to be weaker and you have a third rate sorcerer.

Illusions though can be a lot of fun, especially if you have a good DM. It just isn't an optimal build.

Isn't abjuration the total opposite of hurty killy?

Abjuration is the school of defensive warding.  Evocation is applied force, and Transmutation is altering force, both of which will serve a lot of sheer DPS.  For instance, Transmutation gets Disintegrate.

Yeah all the schools have an oddity or two. Illusion for example gets Phantasmal killer and Shadow Conjuration.

Tip: Shadow Conjuration is excellent for getting horses. DMs will however hate you for it because it relies on the rule that illusionary creatures arn't any weaker... just contain less HP.

It is why I made sure I'd get all the shadow spells as my Sorcerer Illusionist. Anything that gives a sorcerer a variety of spells is a good thing.

As well I got Illusionary Wall... Since the weakness of illusions is creatures with will saves. Yet Illusionary well is one of the few illusions uttarly immune to will saves.

In other words, be a wizard so you can spam finger of death, prismatic spray, and Bigby's Assorted Killy Stuff (not to mention a truly unholy amount of magic missiles) and use your absurd amount of skill points to get Knowledge- Everything at rank 20, make a shitton of Vorpal Throwing Axes, and speak ALL THE LANGUAGES. Be a sorcerer if you're boring and don't like pointy hats. WIZARD POWER
NOTE: I play 3.5, not Pathfinder.

Speaking of magic, is there a skill or another mechanic which works like Concentration? What happened to that skill?

It seems we have this instead of the Concentration skill. Makes sense considering how spellcasters tend to max Concentration anyway.

BTW, I like Sorcerers better even though Wizard seems like the king of spellcasting, as long as they don't forget how many melee guys we have while casting fireball.

Hmm, so I mostly took a break yesterday and played Planetside 2.  Now, to figure out what character sheets I haven't reviewed.

Also, I think I'd prefer to take noob players for this game, sorry people who've played before!  Just trying to spread some experience.  We can, and probably should, set up another table though, we have enough character sheets.

Also, relevant.  Site is NSFW, but this particular comic is SFW:

Well, I'll allow you to trigger a wand without knowing what it does.  So you may wanna Spellcraft check before you risk anything :P

Protip?
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/p/protection-from-arrows

Can be enchanted onto items, preferably onto a ring or amulet and cast as an at-command spell.  So you'd wear the ring, activate it, and have ranged protection for a time.

However, what with the lack of good spellcasters, and the druid having a limited number of spells known, then you're gonna have to pay for a custom item from a shopkeeper.
