Well, my 18 dexterity means that I can actually cause up to 8 damage with my bow, and that the X3 critical has a maximum of 24 damage.
Actually I ran some more numbers. A shortbow deals 1d6 damage, but a halfling uses a small shortbow for 1d4 damage, while using Flight arrows knocks you down a further size to tiny, dealing 1d3 damage, so with 18 dex you get 1d3+4 damage, although if you get a composite shortbow you can add your strength for an additional +1. Needless to say, Halflings aren't great for DPS due to their size. While a Ranger is fun, you may consider changing to a Rogue, as they get the Sneak Attack ability - any time the enemy is 'flat footed' or otherwise unable to use their Dex (caught by surprise, asleep, pinned by a grappler) they deal extra damage.
The rogue's attack deals extra damage (called "precision damage") anytime her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target. This extra damage is 1d6 at 1st level, and increases by 1d6 every two rogue levels thereafter. Should the rogue score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied. Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet.
So at level 1 you'd deal an extra 1d6 damage, and at level 3 it'd be 2d6, and then level 5 would be 3d6... In addition to regular weapon damage, for a total of 1d3+4+1d6 if you catch them unawares. 1d4+4+1d6 if you don't use Flight arrows, although with that much stealth and range, you'd be decent at using flight arrows to headshot enemies.
Just sayin' that you're a Halfling, so your damage is already lowered, and using Flight arrows deals even lower damage.
For everyone else: I'm still compiling characters and whatnot. At this rate the game will be on for next week, unless everyone finds free time between now and then.
