And everyone wonders why otherwise normal conservatives are so eager to paint coastal liberals as a bunch of arrogant, stuck-up, petulant hypocrites.

Harsh. I don't know how that makes me any of that. I volunteered my state.

I don't think it's acceptable to have Guantanamo open. We could just release everyone. The point is, it has to go. it's wrong on every level. We can't just hold them forever, especially in a place where they don't have rights.

Painting "red states" as a monolithic, irredeemable entity is a pretty good indication of being an insufferable, sanctimonious liberal, yes.

No need for personal insults. I don't think that, I don't consider the prison to be as punishment. The people in red states are the poorest and suffer the most, they need help overall.

My opinion, make the reddest state take them. I blame them for this crap anyway. Just force them to build the prison. Executive order.

Then what's this?

There's people who deserve to be there.  Releasing them would be...unwise to say the least.
I'm under the impression that many more of them don't deserve to be there... no solid proof.  But hey, we CAN put the ones that deserve it in some other prison in Murica.  We got lots of those don't we?
Of course, few people up top wants to allow these people the chance to defend themselves in the court of law or any of that annoying legal stuff... so here we are.

Well, someone is going to have to take them. And absolutely no one wants them. (Which is stupid.) So someone has to take the hit.

TBH, it could be a blue state. I just think the republicans are responsible for this mess and should have to play a role in making it right.

Republicans made this mess, so Republicans should take the hit is what you're saying, disregarding that these are different Republicans. You thus advocate punishing a collective (the Republicans) instead of those responsible.
Some other stuff you wrote too - if you want, I'll point it out next time I see it.

Ninjaedit: Fuck no. Maybe I used the word the wrong way, but collectivist != Communist.

Edit: Okay, more precisely: You seem to think in terms of collectives to a higher degree than the average person.

Since nobody wants it to be in their own backyard, I have an idea, use the short straw method. Get 50 straws, cut one of them in half (MAKE SURE NOBODY SEES IT), then have one senator from each state (for states with two senators, use a coin flip to decide who) grab a straw, whoever gets the short straw is the one who will house the Guantanamo prisioners.

I agree, the damn republicans got us into this mess.

I'm confused. My view is that, generally, we are all interlinked globally. I just don't see a better solution. Also, it would have been career suicide for Obama to pick a blue state (or any of them to volunteer.)

I'm okay with the straw method, the point is we need to get them into the states.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure there's a more precise word for that sort of thing, though I've forgotten what it is. Amusingly, it's one of the bigger thought patterns common to standard US conservative thought :V

Though I guess it's more of an extremist/tribal thing than strictly speaking conservative. Standard out-group dehumanization, really.

Just looked it up - according to Aunt Wiki, collectivism is indeed the opposite of individualism. It is a very broad term, of course.

I'm a marxist if that is relevant. Collectivism seems kind of vague. (Also I don't usually mention the Marxist thing because there's so much hate for it.)
