You know, that whole "why don't you go and live in Russia then" thing that Conservatives used to say back in the '70s and '80s could be turned on its head quite nicely now. Maybe American left-wingers can tell right-wingers complaining about LGBT rights and the President not being harsh enough on Muslims or "strong enough" in general or something where they could go.

In an interesting and on-topic note, there was that simulation of the economy which "crashed" in 2037 and Republican Paul Ryan took this to mean USA ceases to have an economy after 2037 because things got so bad the computer apparently said "fuck this data. America will end now!".

It just happens that the 32-bit UNIX time ends in 2037. Coincidence?

EDIT: It seems the CBO regularly uses a specific model for 25 year ahead predictions. So it would make sense for them to trip over this "crash" bug around 2012 (for the dates past 2037) when preparing the next years forecasts.

Paul Ryan specifically said "I asked CBO to run the model going out and they told me that their computer simulation crashes in 2037 because CBO can’t conceive of any way in which the economy can continue past the year 2037 because of debt burdens,” said Ryan."

Maybe Ryan asked them to run their 25-year projection software past the 25 year mark (2037) and they hit the problem for the first time :/

... major general, which isn't quite the same thing -- couple ranks below general, actually, if I'm reading things correctly. Also, that article didn't seem to actually say who was killed -- all I'm seeing (from that article, and checking others) is that the coalition is saying one is dead and several wounded, with no mention whatsoever as to who they are beyond naming one of the wounded as a german brigadier general.

E: Regardless, I'll be surprised and viciously, incredibly pissed off if something like that is enough to stop us from continuing to pull out. Said it before and will say again: Incredibly goddamn tired of the US sticking its dick in the middle east. Let the UN or freaking whatever deal with that shit.

Ah, I misunderstood. I was thinking more that "international" military action tends to involve the U.S doing most of the work, but with some halfhearted European backing.

Yeah, a lot of it does. Which, y'know, I'd say needs to freaking stop. Don't mind the country helping out or whatev', but shouldering a significant amount of the burden while the rest of the world just sits on their thumbs and functionally diddles themselves is getting more than a little old.

Kudos to them for convincing the states to bleed themselves like this, but it's long past time for the states to step down from this leading the world police bullshit and let the rest of the world shoulder more of the burden. To say nothing about stopping the outright dickery that's not even part of the facsimile of playing international sheriff. Been fed up with this shit since about two seconds into the initial Afghan mobilization back in early 2000s, personally.
