Always remember: The KKK hated Catholics. Republicans vs The Spanish Inquisition would be a fun ERB :D

Also, keep in mind, this guy's son wants to be President of the United States.

So does the average grade schooler, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen.

Ted Cruz is a Republican frontrunner. It could happen. The GOP is generally screwed, but it could happen.

You mean Canadian-born son of a Cuban immigrant that fought for Castro? That Ted Cruz?

The GOP establishment will have a field day with that if Cruz actually looks like he could win the primary.

No no no, that sort of thing only matters if the candidate is black Democrat.

There are many reasons not to vote for Ted Cruz.  That said, I don't think this is one of them.  Now, the fact that his father is putting all of his own social and political weight as a preacher behind his son's political ambitions, rather than being the parental equivalent of the awkward racist grandparent or the creepy uncle/aunt, that's something that ties the two together in a concerning manner.

Indeed.  Someone born in the Panama Canal Zone?  American as apple pie.  Someone born in Hawaii?  Plainly a conspiracy to put a Kenyan-born Indonesian/British spy in the big chair.

With the result that...what? Ted Cruz isn't conservative enough?

Cruz revoked his Canadianess iirc. Which is kind of silly because you can probably still smell the stench of politeness and maple syrup on him.

'Cause it's easy to dog-whistle that sort of thing into "He's not *really* one of us, wink wink nudge nudge."

Frankly, even with his crazy-ass rhetoric he's going to run into a portion of the party (at the national level) that simply won't vote for somebody with a Hispanic last name. Don't be surprised to see a couple of primary opponents start calling him "Rafael" (his legal first name), just to underscore that. "Rafael Cruz" will be the primary version of "Barack Hussein Obama".

The whole thing with Obama is just that his dad is Kenyan and he spent some time in Indonesia as a kid.

So, yeah, if Ted Cruz becomes frontrunner, expect the dems to turn the tables on the GOP with the birthplace, except this time Ted Cruz actually was born in Canada.

The whole Obama birther thing isn't the first time there was dispute about where the person was born. It happened with Chester A. Arthur. (who actually was born in the US).

so you're saying the dems will lower themselves to the reps level?

over what

the next election will be totally bullshit in regards to being skewed towards a given party

the dems would need a total brainfart to even consider losing (though honestly, we all know THEY can manage that and even more)

loldemographics

e: i am not the democrats NO SIREE DON'T EVEN LOOK AT ME LIKE THIS AAAAAAA

LSP thinks too highly of himself to even consider brainfarting himself, I see.

Probably not all of them and to such a ridiculous degree, but the fact will definetly be brought up. Still, people being people, theres going to be some group out there that brings it up. At least the claims are legit.

I'm wondering if the dems will offer up any other candidates besides Hillary. Not saying that Hillary wouldn't be qualified, just want to know what else the Dems have to offer.
