Do you live in a state that refused the Medicaid expansion?

Looks like it, yeah.

Phred Felps is officially dead.
I'm going to crack open a cold one tonight to celebrate. It's rare that I actively celebrate the demise of another human being, but in this case I think Mr. Phelps vacated his membership card to the human race long ago.

Logged in to post about that. The one thing I didn't expect to see when I woke up this morning was a story about his death.

There is currently a minor problem in that the veteran demons fighting in the corpse factory have failed to die in the 2 year battle and have become legendary unkillable gods of war. I may have misjudged this possible outcome.

Any loss of human life is tragic, but we can still rejoice in the positive aspects of this.

Let's hope he doesn't get replaced by someone even more crazy.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Unfortunately, I'm confident he raised at least one of his sons to be that someone.

Sorry, but I can't approve desecrating of corpses, even if it's Phred Felps.

Yeah. I'm sad that dying was the best thing he could do - it still wasn't good, it just means he can't actively do anything to make the world worse.

Fortunately, I don't think it's actually possible for him to be replaced by a worse leader. Crazier, perhaps, but the man set a pretty high bar for that, and I'm skeptical that anybody could act in more extreme way without providing the legal pretense everybody wants to have for shutting down that Church.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

It would be classy for all the people who dislike him and his cult to just ignore the funeral. But the maturity of that would be lost on the cultists, so might as well drag out the paper mache donkeys and handpainted signs.

I wish to god dying wasn't the best thing he could do, but really, it was. And it's happened.
Eh, I wouldn't quite go that far.  Let us not remember the crazy cult leader who made lawsuits into a religious pastime (err, the Christian Baptist/Calvinist cult leader, not Scientologist; it's so sad that that actually needs clarification). Instead, let us remember the lawyer who, in the 1960s, systematically attacked Jim Crow laws in Kansas by fighting racist behaviours and policies in education, law enforcement, corporations, and politics, including law.  Back before he went off the deep end, got disbarred for making false statements, and went full-on religious loony.
