There will be no debt-ceiling fight over Obamacare this year. Just over the size of the budget...

Also, Chris Christie is being probed by the feds over several scandals, including the bridge scandal. Could it be that the GOP's hope of winning 2016 will have ended almost as quickly as it began?

The Republicans finally realized that if they actually think that the ACA is a bad idea, they don't need to do anything beyond state that they oppose it and then get out of the way while things go badly. Sure took them a while, especially considering that if they actually succeeded then they'd be attacked for risking the nation's economy and for "stopping a good health reform law from being put in place".

Also, good riddance to bad rubbish with Christie. Damn fascist goon, even if he isn't near as bad as Bush, McCain, Romney, and so on.

I think I'm going to enjoy watching all the Christie hopefuls have their loves and dreams dashed to pieces years before the election. While the GOP usually has issues with true believers, this is the kind of problem you face with pragmatists: they'll do anything to get their way, or possibly just to be a dick to people they don't like, because they don't have that kind of conviction.

So, I'll say it one more time: RIP GOP.

Nor as bad as whatever other presidential hopefuls I reckon.  But hey, Republicans are probably going to gnawsavage each other during the next presidential primary too.  Good entertainment.

Christie is better than a lot of them, but he's still a goon, so good riddance.

As is tradition.

On Christie, I still prefer him over the rest of the current batch of Republican presidential hopefuls. I'd rather have a pragmatic goon than a goon blinded by ideology. If the goon is a given, anyway.

So what are the likely Democratic nominees? Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden... Who else?

Elizabeth Warren. That's all I know. The democrats have been so, conventional recently. Meanwhile the GOP front-runners; well they are an open race, and quite an interesting one to be watching.

I read an analysis somewhere of Christie's speech, and it's almost shocking how much he pilfered from various people.

So, what's next for the Gay Agenda? Well, not satisfied with their work in Utah, they turned their total control of the judicial system to a new target, Oklahoma

It's not often I have a positive politic event to report from my state.
I think deep down the US is more progressive than we let on... It is just that the crazies feel the need to vote while most normal, moderate, tolerant people just can't really be bothered to join in on politics. My guess would be that if one election everybody voted, the GOP would be knocked flat.

Because as we all know being republican and being normal, moderate, and tolerant are mutually exclusive. I find it funny how some people professing to be "tolerant" are anything but to the people they disagree with.

I love how people confuse "tolerance" with "accpetance". As long as we don't start rounding up Republicans and putting them in death camps (or inciting people to do so), you got nothing on us. And being tolerant of people who do advocate such things - on whatever side of the political spectrum they may stand - means helping dig the grave of our liberal society.

Supporting the current batch of republicans is certainly pretty exclusive with being moderate and tolerant, yes. Back before the party decided to start it's purges of everyone who wasn't "ideologically pure", sure, there were a number of moderate and tolerant people who could vote for Republican candidates in good conscience.

It's been a while since that's been the case.

I find it funny how some people professing to be "tolerant" are anything but to the people they disagree with.
I found it funny how obsessed some people are with something they clearly don't understand. Come off it - we know the whole "lib'ruls are intolerant!" talking point, repetition doesn't make it any less bullshit. Intolerance of intolerance is absolutely required for an open society, the same way a willingness to remove essential freedoms from persons who violate the social contract is essential to a free society. There's a reason we throw murderers in jail, you know, and I doubt you're going to argue that we're hypocrites for supporting freedom in America and still doing so. Of course this is all probably pretty academic, as I am not even sure you understand what intolerance is - most people who say the line above don't seem to, anyway.

Its NOT about disagreeing with matters of policy, even strenously. The Republican debt default bullshit, terrible as it might be, is not intolerance, nor is pretty much anything the dems have done recently. Opposition is not intolerance anymore than disagreement is persecution, and no matter how badly many conservatives seem to want to be the victim of both as a rhetorical point, its not happening.

Intolerance exists amongst liberals of course - its a people thing at its core - but its only enshrined in the ideology of one of the parties by definition.
