Didn't he even get surgery to appear less fat in a potential presidential run? I remember hearing something like that on the Daily Show.

I've seen some pictures if I recall correctly where he has lost a fair bit. He was extremely obese before though so now he's just... obese.

I don't really understand how anybody can maintain that level of fat. I mean, I'm not exactly skinny, but there's a sane equilibrium you'll reach even if you don't try to control your weight. You have to try to maintain that kind of fat. It takes concentrated effort to consume that many calories per day, and the fatter you get, the more inefficient it is. Somebody like Christie could probably lose a great deal of weight just by going on starvation rations for a week or two.

Fat produces a hormone that signals the body to stop eating. (Leptin). In some people, the genes to produce this hormone are defective. As a consequence, they do not experience satiety, even when they are ready to burst from eating food.

This disorder is rare, but it does exist. I dont think Christie has it. However, there are a number of endocrine disruptions that can disrupt proper signalling in the leptin pathway, which have been attributed to fructose intake. The american diet is very VERY rich in artificially incorporated fructose.

I try to avoid eating foods that contain HFCS or worse, crystallized fructose sugars wherever possible, but this basically means making my own bread, and anymore, I dont have time. (Thanks corporate america.)

Meh. Considering the effort it takes me not to starve to death solely due to laziness, I can understand someone can have the opposite problem.

So I guess that's it now with Christie's presidential aspirations? He seemed like one of the more sane Republicans (at least from afar).

No. Any GOP candidate that makes it to the "Inner sanctum" of the party is so insanely polluted with the party koolaid that they make Napoleon's body look like a happy petri dish.

The "Sane" conservative politicos are systematically eschewed by the party's core constituency. You will never see them in the MSM, unless there is a scandal. Chris Christie was trying to get into the inner sanctum.

Christie is better at controlling himself than most of the GOP lineup, but his positions don't vary much. The best thing I can say about him is that he's pragmatic while a lot of the rest are true believers. On the other hand, Romney was pretty pragmatic himself, and we see where that got him. Either way, he's definitely running in 2016. There's no doubt on that.

He's just better at not shouting "Heil Hitler!"  -- Errr... "PRAISE JESUS, GOD BLESS AMERICA!", than his contemporaries. That's all.

(Yes, I know that's a godwin. It's possibly one of the very very few times that the act is sensible though-- Many older-generation german nationals reel and go white faced, listening to our ultracons.)

Yeah, I'm aware of that. Though it's the ones that appear disadvantaged in the intelligence department, like Palin, that scare me the most. The more intelligent religious/nationalist evil overlord types can still become pragmatic once they're in power.

Baking bread isn't too tough, but it is something you have to plan for. It's also hard to make sandwich-style bread because slicing it thinly is difficult. But if you give up on sandwiches and just eat a salad with those ingredients with a side of bread you're good.

Depend how you like your bread. If you like it dark and dense, slicing it thin enough for sandwiches is really easy.
