So my parents, being rich and white,  decided that seventeen merits not only a phone, but also a checking account.

Now with the looming debt ceiling Black Thursday, I have to ask: is the FDIC remaining in operation during the shutdown, or should I make a before-school bank run?

It would seem the shutdown has delayed my declension-fu. Carry on, carry on...

From fdic.gov:

Quote
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Operating Status:

The operations of the FDIC continue uninterrupted during the federal government's lapse in appropriations. The FDIC is funded through assessments on insured institutions, not through appropriated funds. As always, deposits remain fully protected up to statutory deposit insurance limits.

That would seem to indicate it'll still work if we default as well. Although, if a LOT of banks fail at once, they won't be able to cover the payouts.

5:56 America time, senate has chosen not to vote yet.
"America time". I guess the rest of the continent is less interesting anyway.

Not to mention we have four time zones. But maybe we'll end up being like China and make the country one single time zone to save money. Enjoy your 11am sunrises, Left Coasters!

Then you have no choice but to set up a GreaseMonkey (or similar macro-esque addon, if I've completely forgotten its stated uses since last I touched it) script to change the topic title every hour on the hour. :P

Six, actually. Although I don't blame you for letting MST and CST slip your mind :) .

BREAKING:
House Bill is pulled! They didn't have the votes; despite editing the bill all day to increase conservative support, the right rebelled. The Senate Has restarted talks! Reid and McConnell were already close to a deal, now they can push it through a lot more easily, McConnell posing it as the last, best chance to not lose abjectly, he will almost certainly win moderate support, Boehner will be forced to put it on the floor!

Now, there is one last hurdle, the only man who can stop us now: Ted Cruz

I wanted a picture of people at the top of a roller coaster. This was what I had.

There are far more terrifying roller coasters than that. When I was in Flordia, I rode a roller coaster where the drop was so steep that I was three rows back and still hanging at 90 degrees. I don't even want to think about what the front row saw. It only stopped for three seconds, but it felt like an eternity of deathly terror.

When I was in Flordia

I know this is just an inadvertent typo, but this is what I will now and forever call the Flaccid State. It sounds like a slightly ridiculous fantasy realm. Which is pretty apt.
