Mining is a somewhat egregious case. We don't have to strip away all of the earth, create gargantuan slush ponds, or blow up entire mountains and fill the valleys in with the leftovers.
You kinda need to do that for Rare earth mining. While they are quite abundant, they are so spread out that you need to filter significant amounts of ore, and use plenty of chemicals to get them out. In fact, it's only econmically feasible to mine them in conjunction with others minerals often found on site, like thorium and uranium, which further increases the danger and environemental impact.

Besides, the other mining techniques aren't that great either.

Insert refrain from Handel's Messiah here.

A good way to say farewell to her, I would suggest, is adding this to your summer reading list.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Bizarre.  Truly bizarre.  Guess the investigations into her failed Presidential campaign hurt her numbers enough for her to decide not to seek reelection.  Of course, now there's an open seat with a ton of Republicans on the state level looking to move up; which will make for an interesting primary on one side.

Hopefully Bachmann lives up to her promise/threat to move away if the state legalized same sex marriage (it did).

"He touched the void inside her, polinating her pink flower like a master bee"

Why do I find that so amusing? I shouldn't, but it's just such a terrible piece of writing.

Add in some "traditional American values" for good measure.

As the primaries of the 2012 election recede into the realm of memory, I bet you'd almost forgotten about the man who was quite possibly my favorite candidate. Ladies and gents, I'm pleased to announce that Herman Cain is back with a song in his heart. Is there anything the man can't do?

I'm sure he can win a presidential election. Just not necessarily the one he wants.

I think more people would have supported him if this was really how he spoke. I know it's old but I still find it funny.

I'd love to see him on campaign again, he's totally off his rocker but maybe he could be a bit more successful if he got his shit together.
