Have we had any presidents in the last couple of decades that didn't (preside over the) murder (of) innocents in the Middle East? That and south american has kinda' been USA's shtick for a while now. Gov' sponsored fuckery that ends up with collateral damage (fancy words for "we intentionally caused the death of people unaffiliated with our target") has been a pretty consistent thing

Technically it's not legal yet.  It'll be official Tuesday (the State Senate will likely approve it Monday) when the Governor signs it.  Well, the 2012 referendums showed the pendulum swung enough that same sex marriage was finally going to win at the polls (Washington, Minnesota, Maryland).

I suspect a sufficient majority of states will pass same sex marriage laws over the next decade that a constitutional amendment could be passed.

Does gender and orientation fall under "sex"? Most of us would say so. Conservatives would not.

And the supreme court has made poor decisions before and been overridden by amendment. Such as Oregon Vs Mitchell and the 26th amendment.

It is irrelevant. The Constitution as it stands guarentees all citizens equal protection under the law. Gender and orientation by definition will fall under that, the courts just have to recognize it (which will happen long before any possible amendment).

It could happen next week for all we know.  IIRC both same sex marriage cases are still before the supreme court.

Not at all going to happen. Roberts' comments have already established that he desires at least a limited recognition of equality. This leaves the conservative justices without a fifth vote.

He very specifically reminded everyone that he had never made his opinion on same-sex marriage clear, but given his dissent in Lawrence v. Texas that doesn't mean much.

In my opinion, if it wasn't for the 2nd Amendment, conservatives would slam a lot of stuff in the constitution as "just an amendment". So it's probably a good thing overall that there's at least 1 amendment they like.
