Rand Paul Filibusters Brennan Nomination.
This was literally what we were discussing.
Last four posts:
In other news, Rand Paul has been fillibustering for the past 6 hours the old fashioned way, by talking and talking and talking until the nominated CIA head answers his questions regarding drone bombings.

EDIT: Live stream
Rand paul ladies and gentlemen, The Obama Administrations greatest Troll. He is the one guy who figured out how best to beat Obama.\

By being really, really, really annoying.
When did it get to the point where the guy fillibustering seems like some kind of hero? At least Rand Paul has the stamina to stand for several hours instead of hiding behind procedure . Goddamn it America, how did you get this way?
Oh, back in the late 30s I guess.

Anyway, how long do you think he can keep this up?

Rand Paul Filibusters Brennan Nomination.

The comments on that...I do hope the readers of the Washington Times are all sarcastic.

I find the use of drones for oppressing the population to be rather impractical. There are a lot of more convenient and cheaper methods of mass surveillance/assassination that doesn't require the use of expensive USAF equipment.

I agree. There are a lot more convenient and cheaper methods of mass production/agriculture that doesn't require the use of expensive USAF equipment. Why oppress when you can impress?

Wait, you guys still have that as a thing?
Over here they get a time limit, and then their mic is turned off and everybody does something productive...

No, they've automated the process. Nowadays, you can just say "I'm filibustering", and block the thing effortlessly. And then no one do anything productive, because this is the US Congress.

So... How did they get the process in place to allow for streamline delays, with all the delays?

Because if there's something the US congress is efficient at, it's inefficiency.

Yeah I don't get it either.

I must say, I in awe at the US, for managing to be so great a country in so many aspects, while having so obviously disfunctional institutions.

Actual filibustering, I think, we tend to be fine with, because it exemplifies a rare case of our politicians actually caring enough to really DO something. It's the procedural shit, the "Imagine I was dedicated enough to my cause to filibuster for it, even though I'm obviously way too much of a lazy fucking hypocrite to ever do something like that, and let's just roll with it. Agreed? Agreed." that tends to upset people over here. They took the filibuster, which may considered a powerful American tradition and tool of the underdog, and turned it into a ... however the fuck you want to describe it now.

Note that the filibuster is the reason SOPA wasn't passed, in all likelihood (again, the classic one). The procedural one can't even be used for the sorts of stuff the filibuster exists for in most people's minds.

filibustering as It means now is sorta a "No, I don't want to lose this vote, Let's stop it by requireing 60 votes jut to get it TO a vote"

Officially however, This is legitimate Filibustering, which is rare. As long as he can keep talking, he can hold control of the floor. Of course you have to be REALLY opinionated to filibuster something, since it's generally assumed you will fail.If it's for an unknown cause, it can cause popular attention to be drawn to it either way. that's generally the best usage, prevent controversial blls from steam-rolling before anyone notices.

I'm fine with filibusters because it gives them a chance not to act rashly as long as one person is willing to act as the voice of reason.
