No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Ask and ye shall receive. Joe Arpaio hires convicts to patrol schools. He also had a special training day with Steven Seagal. Now if only Seagal was forced to wear a pink jumpsuit.

That is exactly what I expect from Arpaio.

That cannot be fucking legal. Will somebody please prosecute Arpaio already?

I thought there might be problems with vetting for volunteer security work, but failing to perform even the most basic child protection checks is unbelievable.

I'm generally not for assassination, but it's looking more and more necessary.

Hunter S. Thompson won over the city of Aspen on the platform that, among other things, as sheriff he would tear up roads to build meadows and rename the city "Fat City" to keep big business out.

Easily. Next year he'll have been Sheriff for 20 years. He's also 80 years old.

And Maricopa County's Sheriff Office has never been better.
Christ, even the Arizona website is evil. It won't show me the article unless I let it enable cookies. I don't think so, azcentral.

Really? Wow, that's terrible. Makes sense though.

Quote
Last year, an Arizona Republic investigation into the 400-plus reopened cases revealed that the Sheriff’s Office failed to adequately investigate reports of sex abuse and assault — in some cases never interviewing suspects or running background checks on known offenders.

Some sex-crime complaints were completely ignored. In other cases, files were later found gathering dust in a drawer or in a deputy’s garage. Those shortcomings, combined with lengthy delays in resolving cases, left alleged predators free to find other victims — sometimes for years.

...

“The deficiencies identified ... were not problems that stemmed from the conduct of one or a few individuals. Rather, I have determined that ... the MCSO sex-crimes unit was inadequately resourced to complete its tasks. The systemic problem could not then, and cannot now, be properly addressed or corrected by disciplining a few individuals,” sheriff’s Deputy Chief Brian Sands wrote last week to detectives at the center of the internal investigation.
The relevant bits. Basically it seems like Arpaio spends too much time sending bills to the Fed and posses to Hawaii to effectively manage his own department. No surprise there.

Earlier today, I was trying to think of a project I can while away my time on during school hours since, y'know, I'm in a foreign country and can do that.

I have come up with the idea of writing an epic poem in the style of Beowulf about the 2012 election.

The relevant bits.
That... that last line...

... I bet there's a hell of a lot of people that wishes they could fuck up their job and not get fired (or thrown in jail, considering the apparent screwups), just because their department's underfunded.

If I ever end up a corrupt m'fucker, I'll have to remember that line. "We're underfunded, reprimanding folks that royally screw up isn't going to help with that any, so there's no point in bothering, right?" Swear to Zeus, just saying something like that probably net you jail time or somethin'. Not even sure if it matters if you did something. Line like that means you probably will, or did, or should probably spend some time away from people and think on your mistakes or... something.
