Perfectly understandable in retrospect . If his political statement is to be blamed as soon as something goes wrong, and to have an "liberating" tool shut down before it begins, then sure. You'd think that it's already been exploited for this and been kept quiet, though i suppose there's an argument to be made for edging it into the popular consciousness, thereby increasing the quantity if not (necessarily) the ease of access. They are acting stupidly, but they're also in a pretty bad situation. You could call it the Y Divide, if you needed to give it a name. Generation Y is crazily liberal and crazily screwed over even in comparison to Generation X. This puts the Republicans in a bad situation.

As Generation Y (And Z, as we'll see in a few years) begin to enter the voting population in greater droves, the Y Divide will not vanish. The Republicans will have to chose between appeasing the people who will eventually be the major voting group of the nation or appeasing everyone else. The Democrats don't really have to chose this, they just have to be what they want to be, liberal.

There are significant disagreements of how this nation should be ran between those younger and older than 40, and it will be the next big thing in politics (as opposed to what the big thing used to be, which is appeasing a bunch of aged Baby Boomers).

But it doesn't make any sense to accelerate that. It's a liberal generation, but I think there's enough sympathy for Republican values that we're not a lost cause, if the party is smart. Would I vote for a Dewey or an Eisenhower or a Nixon (extracurricular crookishness aside) or even a Goldwater? Definitely.

Of course, they're not going to turn around- the primary system guarantees it. But, lordy, they just won't die...

All the pre-Reagan Republican influences are crippled at best. Even someone like Goldwater isn't enough. Hell, on some things even Reagan wouldn't be enough for them today.

The Republican party's only real long-term hope is to become a Libertarian entity, but even that might not be enough and it will piss off the non-insignificant base that is the Religious Right.

They ARE making some progress though! Immigration is coming along... I mean, with Gun-control having set backs, and Gay marriage being handled by the states and courts, it's clear they have decided to mark their territory on Immigration.


Oh yeah, and Have you heard of the Heritage foundation's report about how the immigration reform will add 6.1 Trillion to the Deficeit? Turns out he is fond of other views on immigrants too.

Heh. That may drag on a bit, given healthcare. 2 questions; what do you find people (optionally, yourself included) disagree with their parents on the most, and quite possibly more importantly, what are the divides within the distinct groups of those under and over 40, particularly your age group?

I like California, but I wish that we had legalized SSM for good way back in the Prop 8 days so we wouldn't be looking so backwards right about now :/

I was pleasantly surprised by the margin.  I was expecting it to be razor thin, but it passed 75-59.  71 D, 4 R for; 2 D, 57 R against.
